what if pc gaming died

think about it
1)no game could be run at high settings by one cideo card
2)doom 3- great, farcry -great, UT2k4 great, Quake 4 WTF (no offence to quake its just that people still play quake 3 and look at quake 4 some people hate it)if anyone knows a great game that came (pc) out in 2006 name it
3)too expensive. look at it this way u can play the same games in $500 console

itll be a matter of time before it (the industry) stops

Three words: keyboard and mouse

In all seriousness though in order for consoles to take over pc gaming they'd have to become PCs themselves. It's so much easier to communicate with people over a PC. Let's not forget that most people use their PCs for alot more than just gaming.

Lots of recent console games seem pretty stale as well. Lots of bad PC FPS port such as the absolutely hideous xbox 360 version of Quake4.

Quake 4 > Doom 3, I don't know how anyone can be confused about this.

Galactic Civilizations 2 is an awesome game. Also, we're only in March of 2006. There haven't been any great console games to come out yet either.

PC gaming will never die, many people simply prefer a keyboard/mouse over a controller. I don't see this changing. Furthermore, it will cost a lot more than $500 to get the same games. You'll need to buy at least 2 consoles to have the same spread of games that you have for PC (since most good console games are ported to PC anyway)

i see the keyboard mouse theory thats why pc games didnt stop yet
communicating, consoles will counter eventually (game wise not internet) for example xbox live
just saw another thing 7900gX2(dual core????) $1000

true...

in the consoles defence for this gen so far is just so much fun to play a video game in hd and have a killer sound setup... plus it's also a blast when your friends come over and they can all play...

some of the gfx i have seen in the xbox 360... wow...

1) There are game out right now that run just fine with one video card. Even with "only one video card" they still look 5 times better than console games.

2) 2006 is not even 1/4 the way through. Most game manufacturers release their games mid to late in the year when buying power is higher. People are out of school and want a game to play... the holidays are coming... etc. Wait and see.

3) You can play the same game on a $500 console... but it just doesn't look as good, IMHO. I'm a fan of console games, but PCs are leaving them in the dust. What happens in 4 years when the same consoles are reaching the end of thier marketability? They have 4 year old game quality while PCs are still within the year.

What makes up 90% of the cake is that PCs may be expensive... but the average person already has a computer or already needs a powerful computer for the things they do. The ability to play high-end games is really an added bonus for many people. I really don't dump anymore than a few hundred into my PC every year (unless I build a new one.) and the only qualms I have with it is that more console games aren't put on PC and most console controllers don't work too well on a PC... I'm still wanting to give using a 360 controller on a PC a whirl.

i guess he is referring to exclusive games to consoles... but i have noticed more xbox games get ported than the ps2 counterpart...

what i think it boils down to... is how hardcore one is...

i mean, i use to be hardcore pc gamer... but it just costs too much to stay on the cutting edge. i mean, i know in less than a year, pc gfx will again surpass the xbox 360 or ps3 graphically... but then it means thats another 600-500 on a video card that will only last 2 years. where as with a console it will push a good 4-5 years. i figure i will get my fun out of the consoles and just have a pc for surfing the net.

What if idiots were no longer allowed to post on the Internet? Would the rest of us enjoy ourselves without completely retarded posts like this? Probably.

It's far from just keyboard and mouse. I'd also say multiplayer flexibility, mods and customization play huge roles in it.
There's a greater flexibility in controllers too, so you can have games like GTR can be made to support a 7 speed shifter and a clutch.

Ok I am predicting a 97.823% chance the that the OP is mentally retarded, can anyone back up these numbers?

People still play games on the PC? huh. I haven't done that in many years. Except for the occasional StarCraft or Diablo I dig up.

are we going through this again?

there have been at least 2 threads in the software forum about this already.

pc gaming is not going to die. stfu already!
