what a moron!!! i've always wondered what would happen, but never done it, and wouldn't have tried it, not with a new car anyways...

what if you throw it into 1st gear while hauling it?????

If it is a non-broken automatic, it will stay in higher gear until the road speed has dropeed to an engine safe level. Now stick, that's another story.

i'm thinking stick :D

I dunno about you but my first gear has no synchro so I can't put it in first unless I stop.
Or you just double clutch and rev-match. It's not rocket science you know.

The tranny on that 1500 has to be toast to. If the driveshaft sheared like that I can only image what the tranny went through.

shifting to reverse isnt the same as downshifting (to a lower gear, obviously)

for stick, the synchros would help prevent downshifting into a wrong gear... unless you double-clutch.. but putting it into reverse from a forward gear wouldnt be possible because of the reverse lock-out... or maybe unless ur car is from the 1950s or something

kinda redundant...because double-clutching involves rev-matching...

...unless youre trying to pull a funny ...

Judging from the appearance of that house (if it's indeed the truck's owner's), they probably don't care. They could afford to run out later that afternoon and get another truck.
