They should give the officers airsoft pistols for decoration. How often it is in today's military that a soldier will ever get to use their side arm?

You want to go into a "spider hole" or any sort of highly confined area with an M16?

Thats why we got the m4 now. It is slowly becomming the standard rifle for the army. They are actually re-writing the manual of arms for the m4.

P.S. - The m9 aint that great, but its not to aweful either. Been there, done that. I have heard some decent stories of it in use.

Nope (I have been considering the PLC program, though). No one in my family that served was one. To more than a couple Marines pulling out of the Chosin Reservior, my grandfather was their best friend... close air support from a fellow marine.

PLC! Do it! Now! ;)
They'll brainwash you. Look at me. :)
I'm off to do some wargames with a bunch of the guys now.

Ack! The MP. ;)
Who started using the M4A1...oh yea, the Marines (and Special Forces).

Probably because its a lot smaller of a force, so costs are way less?

Anyways, i'll just stick to a .50 caliber machine gun or possibly a MK-19 automatic grenade launcher (also developed for the marines during vietnam). :p

I do like the idea of moving to a shorter barrel. Smart. However, the 5.56...id rather have something bigger for the urban combat we do now. 7.62x39 (yea, i know, commie ammo) at least.

Slap yourself. Hard.

The US Army may have a couple in inventory, but the Army as a whole does not use them.
Umm, the .50 cal desert eagle is standard issue for the US Army. The Italian army uses Beretta pistols.

You're living in a fantasy world. There are not enough Desert Eagles on the planet to supply the US Army. It would be prohibitively expensive to use an exotic gun like that - the ammo costs a fortune. That would be like using Maybachs as staff cars.

My friend Dan who just got back from Iraq just informed me that you're wrong.

obviously you don't know ANYTHING about the Army. My "proof" is common sense. The Army needed a gun that was more powerful than the 1911. They chose the Desert Eagle because, despite the fact that it's a larger caliber bullet, it is twice as powerful and has less recoil. THAT'S WHY IT'S STANDARD ISSUE IN THE US ARMY.

I would believe the military dudes :)

Plus........ the Desert Eagle would be to bulky & too expensive to shoot if everyone in the US military had one.

Cheers,

I've said it before and I'll say it again - this is sheer fantasy. Whoever told you this was lying or mistaken, and you are repeating it as fact. It is not only untrue but defies all common sense. I suggest you look it up before you continue to repeat it like a mantra.

Bwahahahaha.... I had to stop typing till the laughing stopped.

Sorry. Anyway, just for you, I'll type this verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly, maybe it'll help you understand. The IMI Desert Eagle chambered in .50 AE is not, and never has been, the standard issue of the US Army. Clear enough?

Ummm... the Israelis' Desert Eagles use the .50AE round. The US Army is the .50 ACP round in their standard issue Desert Eagle handguns.

LOL! Gun expert, huh? I am merely an avid shooter (and military member, as it happens), but I still know it is laughable to say the Army's standard-issue pistol is a $1,200 gun whose ammo costs many times more than standard 9mm NATO ammo.

Really? Expert enough to know that the US armed forces have by and large been transitioned to the M9? Expert enough that you havent talked to any former or current service members (and if you are a "gun expert", chances are 99+% that you would talk to more than a few people like that on a monthly basis), and heard the old school ones b!tch about the M9?

$1,200? I think you have it confused with a fancy Beretta or something. This isn't Italy, this is the United States of America. The desert eagle retails for like $300. The Army gets them less because they are STANDARD ISSUE.

Uh, no, and, uh, no. I sincerely hope this is a Skoorb-style joke, because otherwise you are sorely lacking the knowledge you claim to possess.

1. There is no ".50ACP" ammunition.
2. The Desert Eagle costs $1,200-1,800, depending on finish.
3. The actual issue pistol, the Beretta M9, costs the Army less than $200 apiece.
4. The Desert Eagle has NEVER been the issue weapon of any U.S. military force. As the Army itself says, the Beretta M9 has been the issue pistol since they transitioned from the Colt 1911 in 1990.
