What's the story with Wegman's? I moved to a new area and heard some people talk about it. I've always shopped at Walmart in college, but I still do now. But it is kind of a shady store and they pissed me off over something so I want to shop for groceries somewhere else. Also their meat selection isn't too good so I want to find a place with some better selection on a few items they lack in.

So I thought this Wegman's place might not be that bad. I haven't went yet but a friend of mine did for the first time and he said it is a ritzy place and it cost him $60 for 3 days worth of food. He bought a little jug of juice that was like $8 and ended up being awful. People made fun of my cans of government juice but once they had it they realized it was tasty. Sounds like Wegman's tries to be all fancy and high class but just ends up getting people to pay ridiculous prices for nothing special. I guess I need to check it out still, but I think I'll end up shopping at Giant.

Acme (Albertson's), Genuardi's (Safeway) and Sam's Club. No super Walmarts or super Targets so I'm pretty limited.

When I first went to the Target here, I seen they had food. Cool I thought! Shopping at Target is much more pleasant than Walmart and maybe a little more expensive but still decent. Well they don't carry alcohol, and they have no produce, meat, stuff like that. Basically only the inner aisles of Walmart is what they carry. So it's a little difficult to want to go to Target for most things but then have to stop somewhere else for brews and other food when I could get it all at Walmart. Seems that spending the time and money on a Super Target that they should do it fully and compete with Walmart. Although I suppose there would be a lot more to it and they would've did it if it didn't bring up a lot more issues.

King Soopers, which isn't an option. It's a big one where I'm from. More common than Safeway I'd say.

Love Winco. Best prices in town.

I shop at Safeway because it is the cleanest grocery store to my house. I have been going there for so long that I know where EVERYTHING is, and that comforts me.

Costco is the best, way cheaper than supermarkets. However, fruits are best from middle-eastern/international grocery stores, since they're pretty cheap and taste better than Costco fruits, which taste better than supermarkets fruits. Ralphs (Krogers) is pretty expensive, but still cheaper than other supermarkets.

Harris Teeter, because I can walk there. I try to drive over to Shoppers when I need more than just a couple of things, HT is expensive.

I'll probably move soon, at which point Safeway will likely be walkable. Can I change my poll answer then? :)

At my new place I'll have a Safeway and mcgruders within walking distance:D

Everything is at least 3mi-7miles away around here:|

Where are you now/where are you moving? I know you're in the area here. I'm in Arlington, there's an HT, Safeway, and Giant nearby, but Shoppers at 7 corners or on Rt 1 is the place to go for "bulk" food :)

Moving to Falls Church. I used to live there and love the area.

You'll enjoy that. Having stuff within walking distance is the best. I've got a Safeway and a Trader Joe's within two blocks of my house, plus an independent grocer, two butcher shops, a cheese & fresh pasta store, two bakeries, and two fruit & vegetable stands within 1/2 mile. I like food!

Can't answer your poll, OP. Where I shop depends on the direction from which I'm walking (pick up groceries on the way home usually).

Yes I will. Right now I am quite annoyed with the lack of convenience I face. Sure everything is green around here and going for a run out here is definitely a great experience, but I get so little downtime that it simply doesn't make up for all the other crap.

I used to love cycling on the W&O almost everyday as a kid from falls church to shirlington and don't feel like I'll miss anything going back there:D

Foodland

Because it is close by as well as being a medium size store with competitive prices(sometimes cheaper than wal-mart-which I also shop at occasionally).

We do the majority of our shopping at Winco, but there are a few things we won't buy there. Meat, it never seems very fresh nor of decent quality. Produce, it's like they get the rejects from other stores, or buy "thirds." Milk and dairy products except butter. Something about the Winco dairy section just isn't right. I can't get a gallon of milk from them to last a week, let alone to its expiration date. Those items listed above all get bought at one of the local stores, usually Save-Mart. Safeway's gotten ridiculous with their prices here of late, Raleys has always been ridiculous with their prices, and Trader Joes is just too...yuppified for us. Some of their stuff is ok, but their location makes it inconvenient to shop there, so we rarely do anymore.

Please Add:
Bel Air/Raley's
Nob Hill Foods
Nugget

Where I am from Bel Air and Raley's together are the most common grocery store. My area has over a million people.

Awesome, we looked at some houses out in FC. Will you be in FC-Fairfax or FC City? We loved FC City, but just couldn't afford it. We drive out to Punjab Dhaba in Loehmann's Plaza to eat a lot :)

In the end, we sacrificed having a bigger house and quarter acre yard to stay in Arlington. Tiny house, but close to the metro and such.
