you dont really save that much considering how much more groceries cost there. Giant eagle is very expensive. the good thing about fuelperks though is buying the giftcards youknow youre gonna use anyway. i dont even go in the Giant eagle here. its way too expensive.

just on groceries though, for what you save on gas, you make up for in spending more than you would at another grocery store.

The non inclusion of Asian markets like 99 Ranch and Lion Plaza is extremely offensive to me especially when a good chunk of the non-Asian population shops there in our neighborhood. JK on the offensive part.

But honestly I buy a good chunk of grocery from 99 Ranch and Costco. The brand specific stuff like Simpli Orange Juice and the Fridge pack of 8 Yoplaits I have to get from Safeway because they don't offer that elsewhere.

in my area, Giant Eagle is very reasonable...I don't buy into the whole "for what you save on gas, you make up for in spending more than you would at another grocery store" theory...

Unfortunately, the Wal-Mart is too far away here so I go to either Publix or Food Lion.

Very recently I started going to the Dollar Tree (a dollar store). They have LOTS of things I never expected to be $1. They even have Nature's Own bread for $1. And the best thing is my street is right inbetween two dollar stores (Family Dollar and Dollar Tree) so whenever I get the munchies I walk right over and pick up some good stuff. :)

edit: Btw, you should probably change the poll to a multiple selection poll..

Mostly Wal-Mart. I typically shop later at night, and so it ends up being them or Dillons. Wal-Mart is easily the cheapest in the area. None of them have what I'd call exceptional variety, nor do they tend to have terribly great produce sections (Wal-Mart is particularly bad in that area, but the other ones are pretty hit and miss as well). Unfortunately I don't really eat enough fresh fruits and veggies, but I'd shop one of the small shops that focus on produce if I did (just as cheap, oftentimes cheaper, but the fruit is so much better). Also, if I need non-food items then Wal-Mart wins hands down. They are supposed to be putting in a Hy-Vee, which I've heard are pretty nice.

Bruno's. It's right down the road and has good food, especially beer, cheese and meat, my 3 favorite food groups.

I shop at Smiths because it is close.
They also give me $.05 off gas (per gallon) if I spend over $30, $.10 off if I spend over $60 and $.15 off if I spend over $90! That certainly helps.

I do. The grocery store 5 mins from our house, gives .10 off per gallon, per $50 you spend.

So lets say you spend $100 at the store, you get 20 cents off the price of gas, for 1 fillup. Our Dakota has a 22 gallon tank, so on 22 gallons of gas, I would save $4.40 if I filled it up to capacity, from an empty tank, after spending $100 on groceries.(going off a price of $4.00/gallon down to $3.80, for arguments sake) Those same groceries at Wal-Mart would be far less than $100. I can tell you right now just on 2 packages of Bagel-Fulls, they are $1.76 at Wal-Mart, compared to $2.49 at Martins. Right there is almost 75 cents per package, and since I buy two, I saved $1.50. Add up those little savings over an entire shopping cart of groceries, and you've far exceeded the $4.40 you saved at the pump, by buying more expensive food.

Walmart for most my stuff. I can't afford anything else.

Sometimes Giant Eagle for chicken when they have a sale.

I get most stuff at Aldi's because it's generally the cheapest. (but it's about 7 miles away from home)
If I want something that Aldi's doesn't have, or if I want to go someplace closer, Jewel is where I go (2 miles away)

...besides we don't shop at WalMart;) I don't think they have a grocery store around here anyways. We can do everything at Giant Eagle.... shopping, banking, prescriptions, bus passes, and fuel. On top of the fuelperks gained from the gift cards, which is 20 cents for every $50 around here we are saving some nice cash. By only having to stop at one location, you are way ahead already.

There's a Publix like 3 mins from my apartment so I shop there. Their prices are generally reasonable, and I would have to drive a good bit further to get to a Super Wal-Mart and the difference in gas/time I'd spend getting there wouldn't be worth the savings I wouldn't think.

At home -- Ralphs or Vons.

At college -- Kroger or Publix. If it's a huge grocery trip, Wal*Mart.

Thats fine. Convenience does have value. All I'm saying though is the gas perks themselves do not make up for Giant Eagles higher cost. They are not even close in prices here.

Now that I'm in Ohio, my wife & I do our grocery shopping at Kroger. When we lived in Birmingham, it was Publix.

I will not buy groceries at Wal-Mart.
