Went to get an emissions test and oil change, but the emissions tester was down, so I'll need to go find somewhere else to take it since my dealership isn't very close.

Do they actually do emissions testing? Here in IL they just plug in an OBD reader and make sure there's no codes. They used to hook something up to your exhaust and drive the car at different speeds on some rollers but I don't think I've had to do that in over 20 years.

That's how it's done here. I've been pretty skeptical of the whole thing since the beginning, even with the tailpipe test. It's just another thing the government can collect money for, and any trivial benefit is far outweighed by the costs. I passed tailpipe test emissions without a catalytic converter. The shell was there, but all the guts had been blown out the tailpipe.

Thankfully we don't have anything like that here, only have to go through safety when buying, which can be a pain as they are getting stricter now which adds to the hassle and cost of buying used. But once you have the car there's no nonsense to go through. They even got rid of plate renewals which is nice.

Today's FWP is that the unscented litter I always get from the grocery store is actually scented now but it's still advertised as unscented. Every time I pass by the litter box room that's all I smell and it's horrible. It's too cold to open the windows to air it out. I really should install a HRV for that room. I already have an intake and exhaust vent on side of house I originally intended to use for the server room but they don't go anywhere, so I could tie into that. Going to have to try to find another litter now. It's hard because most of them only smell in really tiny packages. I need to be able to buy it in bulk since I go through it so fast with 2 cats and grocery store is about the only place that sells it in large boxes. We do have a Petco now that I have not been to yet so might go check there.

I absolutely hate scented litter. It's it's own kind of awful that doesn't improve on cat piss smell. You get cat piss + port-a-pot scent.

Yeah it just makes things worse.

I just dumped a whole package of expired baking soda in it as the smell is really starting to spread and it's irritating, I'm hoping it helps neutralize it. I might end up having to toss this and buy something else.

Yep, because I live close-ish to St. Louis, they check that. They also do safety inspections on older cars, but every car under a certain age has to have emissions testing once every two years.

Sold a keyboard today on FB Marketplace, it looked kind of dirty so I decided to be nice and clean it for the buyer.

HOLY SHIT, I'm never going to eat around my computer again. I took off all the keycaps and the amount of Cheez-It crumbs, other unknown foods and hair that came out nowhere was really troubling. I understand the Cheez-It crumbs and other food. But how the hell does hair get in there? I ordered it Oct '24, and this was my 1st time cleaning it beyond wiping it with a damp cloth. It looked decently clean with the keycaps on, maybe because it didn't have RGB to light up the debris.

I'm so disappointed in myself that I let it get to this level

I've heard that cats really hate it too. I have mildly scented litter and it seems fine, but I wouldn't be able to take much more of it. The mortar I make out of kaolin for my kiln smells just like unscented cat litter. It's a bit gross.

Their nose is way more sensitive than ours so yeah if it bugs me it most likely bugs them even more. Ended up buying a different litter at the pet store. We just got a Petsmart recently and I had not been to it so just went to check it and they have a much wider selection than the other places. I hate to waste so I will keep using the scented until it's done but I will mix in the unscented in hopes it helps kill the smell a bit.

And there you have it folks...Reason #1 not to have a cat. Fckn litter boxes. Our cats were always indoor/outdoor cats...until we moved to WA when the last one was about 16 years old. Too old to let her out to learn a new place...and we had no fenced back yard for her to roam. (and shit) She didn't adapt too well to becoming an indoor only cat. She lasted a little past her 19th birthday. Never again.

Litterbox is easy. Scoop it out, throw it away. I fucking hate dogshit in the yard, and stepping in it makes me want to burn down the world. I don't like dogs anyway, and their shit *is not* the best part of that package.

I repaired a pair a shitty Nike a couple days ago. The sole came up so I glued it back. I fucking hate these shoes. They're my queefers. Walking you hear "pft pft pft" where air is being pushed out of somewhere, and it's like having big marshmallows on your feet. Big blobs of foam. I had to cut a chunk out a bunch of years ago cause it was hurting my ankle bone.

I use them for bullshit around the house work shoes, and to get me to work where I could put boots on. I retired them for a bit, and used a different pair of shoes, but those wore out, so now I'm back to these pieces of shit. I got them from the thriftshop, so it wasn't much money, but I was ripped off whatever they cost. I don't like sneakers anyway, and Nike are shit. I'm only using them so I don't waste resources. If I were wasteful like everyone else they'd be in the trash.

Some shoes are just, bad. The crappy part is you only really realize it after using them for a bit so it's kind of hard to return them when they're new so they end up just sitting unused. I bought some hiking boots thinking they would be lightweight but rugged enough to work in the bush, but they were so unstable and tippy. Like even walking on normal ground it always felt like I was going to sprang my ankle with them. Sure enough I did just that in the middle of the bush, and have not worn them since. Bought some proper work boots instead.

I learned that some years ago and since then, I always have canned air and clean the keyboard once a week with some o' dat pressurized stuff. It works. I now have a nice mechanical keyboard and I've customized a bunch of the keycaps. It's always nice and clean in there.

I spent the weekend out on the beach and coming back into the valley, my allergies are going bonkers. Woke up sounding like I lost my voice, scratchy throat, runny nose and watery eyes. At least it's supposed to rain here over the next 24 hours so hopefully it'll knock some of the dust/pollen out of the air.

I want to order some new Asus Rog NX Snow switches and you simply can't find them anywhere, except Ebay, from Australia. One listing. wtf Asus - I purposely avoided Asus products in my entire last two builds - I just happened to end up really loving the ROG Azoth keyboard after trying some at Microcenter and also reading a ton and knowing what features I want in my gaming wireless mechanical keyboard.

How the fuck do you not sell your own switches? I know, you are a greedy company, and that's why I avoided you for so long.

A new laundrymat opened up by my place. Brand new building. Large, well-lit, modern. I'm not sure how a laundrymat can afford to occupy a brand new building.

Have you seen the prices in a Laundromat?
Where I live it's around 4.50 for reg load washers,
7.50 for larger (blanket sized) loads, 10.00 for the really big machines, and 3.00/hr to dry.

There's a small casino in the back room, that's where they make most of their money. ;)

Seriously though I do wonder how they make money as even with the money from customers it's not like those machines are being used 24/7 and commercial property taxes tend to be VERY high, like in the 10's of thousands per month range. Then you have all the other utility bills, business insurance etc. And since it's a building that public enters you also have to meet strict requirements like needing occupancy permit, working exit signs, fire sprinklers, fire extinguishers emergency lights, fire panel, chair lift or elevator if there's any stairs etc. Stuff that has to be certified and inspected regularly so you can't DIY as they want professional companies to install and certify it.

The actual act of running that kind of business seems cheap, but it's all that other stuff that's not.
