Fucked up badly today. So went to Canadian Tire to get a few things, got home and since I was already out figured I'd park on the street so I can snowblow my driveway as I've been neglecting it for over a week. When I went to park back I last minute decided to get a few groceries since I already was in the truck anyway. At this point I had put my phone in the house since it gets annoying having it in the pocket when shoveling and snow blowing. I get to the groceries I get a few things, pay, then on my way outside I go to get my keys from my coat pocket and they're not there. I check everywhere and nothing. Search the parking lot, ask the cashier if someone brought a set in, maybe I lost them inside the store. Nothing. Couldn't really see them inside the truck either from outside.
I'm just standing there in -20 with grocery cart thinking WTF do I do now? Since I didn't have my phone I didn't have any numbers either so couldn't really ask the store to use their phone either. Decided the best course of action was to start walking to my sister's house since she has a spare key and the whole time I'm trying to think of any other thing I can do. Extreme worse case scenario I break into my own house but really didn't want to have to do that so it was last resort. There was a chance she's not home so was praying that's not the case because it would suck to walk all the way there only for her or her husband not to be there. So I make the 2.5km walk in -20, thankfully they were there, but she didn't have my key so we drove to my parents' house and I got my spare key from them, then was able to go in my house to get the spare set of car keys. Turns out they were in the centre console of truck. What a pain in the ass for some stupidity like that. Mad at myself for pulling such retardation.
This did make me realize I should probably stash a spare key somewhere outside that is in an actual accessible location. I do have one stashed but you need tools to get to it, so that doesn't exactly help in a situation like this.
