I never liked how updates sometimes would go for Windows, I remember waiting longer for an XP service pack to install than the actual XP install took. That makes total sense.

Also just a % with not even an estimate of how long it'll take., And it getting stuck at 30% or some random number for half an hour then jumping to 88% out of nowhere. Microsoft has a long storied history of doing some annoying shit. Who here remembers Win 95 all the way to I think Vista? When you do a clean install it would stop 2/3rds into the install until you set the time zone. And at least on my computers, there was always another 15 minutes of the install left. Why couldn't they ask this at the beginning? Or at least at the very very end. I can't count how many times I'd walk in from doing my bi weekly reinstall of 98 due to a BSOD from my video card. Expecting it to be done but I forgot it can't possibly work until it knows my time zone. and BOOM I still gotta wait 20 damn more minutes to use it lol.

I laugh at Windows 11 estimating "about 4 minutes" "about 8 minutes" when I have updates. It's never been accurate, but I guess at least now they're telling you a number. At least BSOD's and forced reinstalls are gone, I had to reinstall Windows 95, 98 & 98 SE so many times I'd memorized my product key.

MS has always been horrible at estimating times, it's actually comical. Multi billion dollar company full of software engineers and the world's top talent, pretty much the NHL of the IT industry. You'd think they could figure this stuff out. My favourite is when it doesn't tell you what it's even doing. On my work PC the other day, I get a popup randomly that just says "Microsoft", not even "Microsoft Windows" just "Microsoft". With tiny message at bottom "we are getting things ready" Things ready for what? How long will this take? Is it going to reboot me after? No idea! Just wait and see what happens lol.

Something simple like libreoffice takes forever! I have no idea what it's doing. Libreoffice will download and install on my debian machine before I make the short walk to the secretary's computer to see if there's any updates available. If there is, it's at least a 10 minute process getting it installed. I think it's probably longer.

No personal connection aside from having my initial welded on it, which is cool cause I found it at work. I used this today to "spin" a saw chain. My other one I found at work also, but I don't know where it is atm. The handle was cracked, and I taped it.

That reminds me I need to try to find my hatchet that my grandpa bought me as a kid. It would be a cool momento to hang on to, especially once he's gone.

It's not really old or anything, in fact, they still make them under a different name: (used to be Mastercraft)

It's either at my grandparent's house or maybe at my uncle/aunt's cottage. That's if it's even still around, who knows. Camping kinda stopped abruptly and I had kept lot of stuff there. Just no reason really, just life in general, like getting a summer job once I started high school. So didn't really go camping anymore once that started.

A few weeks ago aldi had their usual stollen in the stores. It was a little early, and I also wanted to hold out for the "deluxe" stollen they usually have. It's a little more expensive, but it is better, though the regular version is good. Not only did they not get the deluxe stollen, they haven't had the basic version for a couple weeks now, so I'm stollenless.

I think there's a proverb about this situation. Everyone ignores the classic proverbs cause they're trite, but there's a reason they became classics...

I sometimes think I would enjoy baking, then I try it, and whatever I end up making is more consistent with a construction product, than food. Cookies is the extent of what I can make. Brownies I fail at each time. The last time I tried it, it turned into open cell spray foam insulation that tasted like an omelette.

Kid needs several pairs of jeans because his were old and all worn out with holes. Got same 32x30 size janes from Costco, Lucky Brand, Old Navy and Red Head.
Despite all of them being size 32x30, they all fit differently! Some are too tight, some too big. What happen to standard measurement???

I hate shopping for jeans. It's so hard to get enough variety that all fit well and are comfortable. Can take a while to break them in too but for a while it's like wearing cardboard. I almost feel like just buying 5 of the same ones when I do find one that fits but then people will think I just put the same jeans all the time.

That's why I almost exclusively wear BDUs/ACUs. Every pair fits exactly the same. Large/long to wear with boots, and large/regular for shoes.

Yea, it's a minor nuisance. The biggest reason is I leave the blousing strings on, and they drag the ground with longs. I almost never use them, but every so often they come in handy, so I'm reluctant to get rid of them.

Person that starts nights after me is sick, so I might have to work through Christmas. Good money though especially when it's OT.

Playing it by ear though, maybe he'll be feeling better by then. I at least hope I can still get Boxing Day since I am having family over.

Gah. Xfinity can just die. Switched over to Fidium Fiber (1gbps that's cheaper than my 400mbps comcast). I get a bill from Comcast for the service I cancelled. Bozos. When I cancelled they tried to offer me a deal, after I had just signed a contract for Fidium, I had asked Comcast if they would reduce my bill or I might go with Fidium 3 months early - no dice. Losers

Now, they want to charge an extra $25/mo per line (we have two). When I signed up for Xfinity Mobile, I explicitly asked if this was part of an internet bundle. They said no - this is their every day price. Damn liars. We got an upgrade to two new iPhone 15s recently, but, partly my fault, and then theirs on follow up (well, no follow up) so we've had trouble sending the old ones in for the discount. I have to call today. If they don't a allow us the return the old phone for the sizeable discount they gave us - I'll just have to buy them out and go to another service. Verizon is just as expensive (with the new Xfinity rate), but in all the years I had them as a provider - then never screwed me over. Now I have to turn on the calm cool and collected AJay when I call them to work the problem, even though I'm pretty POed right now.
