Not so much a problem as a concern. I have 8 cameras looking around the yard, all running though an NVR and displaying on a 24" monitor.

The power brick feeding the monitor has died twice in recent years. I try to keep a spare on hand just in case. The NVR wasn't expensive, about $75 or so, but I don't have a spare for it.

If any of them fail, I'm 'blind' outside until I can get replacements. Why is that bugging me? I lived here for 15 years or more without any of this. I'll get by, but I'll be mildly annoyed.

Order a spare one now then you don't have to worry. Check Digikey, you just need to match the voltage and make sure it can supply the wattage. If the one you have dies and it uses some weird proprietary connector you can always just cut the wire and splice the new one in.

Been meaning to look into cameras myself since crime is so bad in my city, though it's not too bad in my particular area... yet. Had a couple break in attempts while I was home but that's about it. Wish I had caught them in the act, but chances are I did hear something at some point and opened the lights and that's probably when they took off. This is where having cameras would be nice as I could go back and check footage to see.

I have a bunch of extra slots in my NAS now so would carve out a raid 10 LUN and dedicate it to the NVR and make it a VM. So really my only expense would be cameras and hard drives. Might need to do a network upgrade though, as I only have a single gig link going to the NAS and VM server and adding cameras would be adding quite a lot of traffic.

Today's FWP is I was curious to try dosbox since I found this super old dos program I was curious to see if I can get running. It worked, but then I went full screen so it's more authentic and it totally screwed up all my icons, windows, and pretty much everything. I guess this is something I'd be better off doing in a VM so it's not messing up my machine.

So that monitor incident turned out to make a bigger mess than I thought. It actually caused my monitors to be mirrored. I only realized when I decided to go do some work that required the second one. had to screw around to get it to work again, but now I'm getting the same issue I used to get at work, where 1 monitor will randomly flicker. Super annoying. Weirdly the problem just randomly stopped at work but now it's going to start doing it here. I thought that was a DP issue. I'm on HDMI.

I find multi monitor setups can be very sensitive, I had it working well but this might very well have opened up a can of worms where I'm going to start having issues now.

I have zero issues with my multi monitor setup. But then I am not using linux with experimental drivers.

I'm actually using the built in drivers, there's no other option for this card. We have lot of issues at work too even in Windows, although in windows 7/10 it's a bit less flaky than it was with XP.

Seems bumping down the refresh rate to 50hz stopped it. Shouldn't have to do that though... but now I'm also wondering if maybe that's what it was set to before. Pretty sure it was 60 though.

A couple months back, for unexplained reasons, my company deactivated the ad blocker on all company computers. Now I get an ad for this thing, every day:

What the hell is it? Some type of iMac fetish?

Forward it to whoever's in charge of disabling the adblocker. Every time you get a spam, forward it. They took responsibility for the problem, so that makes it their problem.

Global warming is making Texas feel like July or August when we're nearly in October and home prices have been driven through the roof to the point it's not really doable to move to somewhere attractive to live.

I ate too many Sour Skittles and my mouth and tongue are killing me. It's pretty damn impressive just how little of these it takes to wreck your mouth. And I stupidly bought the grab and go bag (7.2oz) which I'll probably stupidly continue to munch on until I'm physically unable to chew anymore due to the pain.

There is lot a of good value in smaller metro areas in the Midwest and Northeast. Plus you won't boil to death.

Traveling this week for work and going to be at a big event with lots of people. Paranoid about covid. Only got my booster yesterday and reading that it doesnt have much of an impact until several days out.

People, stop coming to SC. It's effing hot here, too. Rental I bought 3 years ago has gone up 60% in value. Am I happy? Hell, no. Means I can't buy another and rent. It would be nearly $2K/mo for a 2br/2ba in podunk nowhere for me to make any $.

My first day off in a while after working a long stretch of day shifts, I was finishing up my coffee and thinking I should go mow the lawn.

Torrential downpour completely out of nowhere. So much for that.
