I noticed the VM that runs my password manager along with other misc web apps was down. Local stuff like this does not tend to just go down so it was a bit alarming. Turns out I ran out of disk space on one of my LUNs so the VMs on it went into a frozen state. All of them are very close and I really need to look at putting in bigger drives but been kind of riding on the edge for a while as I don't want to spend the money. I managed to delete a couple old VMs I don't use anymore and got the prod ones going again, they were just in a frozen state.

I definitely do need to just bite the bullet and spend the money though and at least upgrade one of the LUNs and move stuff over as needed. When I was checking it seems 10TB drives are best bang for the buck per TB so what I'll probably do is just switch the drives in-place in one of the LUNs then grow it. One of the arrays is a raid 10 with 4x 3TB drives so if I swap those for 10TB drives I'd go from 7.2TB to like 18TB which is a pretty big jump. The other arrays have more drives so it would be a more expensive upgrade but I would do those eventually as well.

Lost my internet connection while working from home, so naturally all my apps started timeout out, RDPs cutting out, citrix cutting out etc... I setup a temp hot spot on my phone but had to reconnect to the VPN and all my apps.

Once I had my softphone going and most of my stuff I started to troubleshoot my internet further and turns out all I had to do was a dhcp release/renew at my firewall. Doh. If I had done that first thing and been quick enough I possibly would not have had to login to all my stuff again. Just spend the last hour or so dicking with all that.

For any suburban clients I have in Northern NJ, it's just insane right now. So little inventory and so many buyers compared to it.

Open houses with lines around the corner. Just inquired on a $550K ranch that looks nice in a nice town in the burbs - they had two open houses this past weekend, first weekend on the market - over 100 groups came. It's Monday morning with three written offers in and many more promised. Even at higher price points and lower price points, same thing.

I bought two "dusk to dawn" LED bulbs for my front and back entryways. When I bought them I thought it was great that I could just leave the light switch on all day but the light would only come on when it began getting dark outside and then turn off on its own when the sun rose.

Well 3 months in and now both lights turn on and off intermittently at night for no apparent reason. Both bulbs are different brands. Happens every 2-3 minutes the bulbs will turn off for 1-2 seconds and then turn back on. I thought it was due to cars passing by and headlights hitting the bulb sensors but it happens even when no cars are passing by.

Probably wildlife or stray cats. Mine went on once while I was lying in bed at night but not sleeping yet and I had this weird feeling I should get up and go check. I look out the window and see a cat eating a mouse in front of my door lol.

Could be heavy bombardment by cosmic rays. You sure you live in a safe place?
Thats probably not it. I bought a several thousand dollar whole house cosmic ray blocker from a door-to-door salesman when I moved in. He said it would work forever and have a lifetime warranty.

Well, the photo cells in the sensor for those lights are receiving some kind of stimulus from subatomic particles. Have you ruled out nuclear radiation? Better invest in a geiger counter to investigate that your area is safe from radon gas emanating from the ground.

ThinkPads are (were) good stuff.
True that. I have a Thinkpad W530. Lovely to work on and my main internet browsing machine at the moment, hosting hundreds of tabs with 32GB RAM. Cost me about $272 (RAM/SSD upgrade was additional expense).

The only thing I might hate with the newer Thinkpads is that Lenovo may have messed with IBM's proven keyboard design. Lenovo laptop keyboards seem to be the worst in terms of typing feel. I don't get how people find them acceptable to use.

I have a thinkpad I found in the trash. I forget what model it is, and I don't feel like getting up and looking. C2D era machine, whatever it is. It works, but I don't really need it.

Was getting ready to make pizza dough to use on Friday but my scale decided it doesn't want to work anymore. Amazon does have a decent one with dual scales so I can weigh out the yeast and stuff with .01g accuracy. But I have to wait until 4-8AM tomorrow to get it. They need to implement same-night shipping, I'd have paid extra to have it by midnight. It potentially coming at 4AM's pretty impressive yes, but not soon enough! I ferment the dough for 72 hours, so now I'll either have to wait longer to make the pizzas, or pull the dough from the fridge before 72 hours. Which would result in a slightly less delicious pizza. On the bright side, my old scale's dual part only was .1g accurate, which is fucking peasant mode when you're super serious about the pizzas you make.

So it's official we're going back to the office. They finally got our network connections turned up.

Have to say it was pretty awesome working night shifts from home though. I really wish this was just the norm. But I knew it was temporary so enjoyed it while I could.

I think we'll still get to work our 8h shifts at home though, that's how it was before. 12h shifts in office and 8h shifts at home. This ensured 24/7 coverage at office. Though corporate is pushing for us to work in the office for specific days of the week which are spread out and would not work very well with our shift work, not to mention lot of back and forth of moving our PC around. I hope that's not what ends up happening.

But these days, have to be lucky to even have a job, period.

My work made the same announcements. I've always been in the office (can't do my job otherwise) but I think it's a boneheaded move for other people who can work remotely anywhere from 0-100% depending on their exact role and responsibilities.
We're going to lose out on a lot of good candidates who will expect some level of remote work as standard now.

Dealing with a stolen credit card, ATM (debit) card, and driver's license. I was at a client's property working on a sidewalk rockery near my truck...saw someone bolt past my truck and I chased him off, did a visual on my equipment which was all there, but I missed that they had nicked my day planner which had been on the floor under the seat. Half-hour later I've got fraud alerts coming on my cell, but after a transaction of $720 on the cc, $950 on the ATM/debit had gone through.

I can't even make a deposit with the ATM card without entering a PIN, but some 17 year old can go to Nordstroms and run up $1700 in 20 minutes. I hope they get stuck eating it.

Worst case is a $50 loss on the ATM/debit, never wanted the damn debit feature but 10 years ago they phased out the basic ATM card. Won't carry one of those around anymore. Going to re-evaluate all my security protocols, I'm getting older and need better systems.

Another FedEx package shipping exception, was supposed to be here yesterday, but it's stuck in Ohio now.

Hopefully it goes better than mine.

Holy shit I remember that post. Yes it's not that bad yet. My last one just hung out in Texas for a full week going from one town to another a few times. So far this one is now just a full day late. But the black hole that is Ohio may have more up its sleeve.
