@Spacehead Kyocera flip. Drop/water resistant. Verizon. I do have a straight talk thinq7 for reasons. Verizon might be getting the boot because of the G3 but I haven't because that # is connected to important crap.

<---- me thinking about getting off my ass fixing the problem.
My brother had the Kyocera DuraXV. I think he has a different one now. He gets his thru work.

I borrowed my neighbor's miter saw to cut up some pecan limbs I use to smoke with. I normally use my reciprocating saw, but I thought a miter would go faster.

Anyways, it was a cheap ass Ryobi and that didn't really cut straight. The blade got caught in the wood and it shattered the fence. So I ordered a replacement fence for $60. Go out to put it on and noticed the base also cracked, so the whole thing is shot 🙁. So I have to buy him a new one. This is why you shouldn't borrow tools and why you shouldn't buy cheap tools.

Worst thing is I only got to cut two limbs.

What would posess you to try that?

To cut 3" diameter pieces of wood with a miter saw? I guess thinking that miter saws are designed to cut wood. Oh and I've seen it done on several BBQ shows.

The problem is the saw uses thin cast aluminum only supported by 2 bolts 16 inches apart. So if you are cutting something that doesn't span that full length it can't handle it. As an engineer, I'd think a fence should be design to handle any force the saw itself could create, but that obviously isn't the case here.

These where perfectly straight limbs and hand already had all the twigs cut off, just cutting them down to length.

I have that Ryobi saw or at least a similar one, and yeah it kinda sucks for cutting straight. When you set it it's still not 100%. There's no "stops" to indicate that you're at a true 90. Kinda annoying.

It was fun making roof trusses with that saw lol.

back hanging out in the forums after a bit of an absence and have hit the home button about 50 bajillion times thinking i would go to the top forum page, and not the main anandtech page. ugh. 😡 everything looks wonky!

i'll live. somehow.

Yeah, I'm going to buy him a DeWalt. It's $50 more, but I can't stand spending my money on something I know isn't good.

Have had a DeWalt for years and increased the value of my homes at resale substantially. Nothing like a nice chop saw.

I do use it to cut firewood. it saves a lot of time.

if you buy today, right now, Milwaukee is a slightly better brand.

As an example:

https://www.youtube.com/c/ProjectFarm/videos

Scroll down. There many power tool videos. Milwaukee frequently comes ahead of Dewalt in tests and is sometimes less expensive.
Power tools go thru generations, and different generations have varying qualities. Tools found at Harbor Freight are actually better than they've ever been. Ingersol Rand is more expensive than Milwaukee or Dewalt but their battery tools are generally inferior.
Craftsman is making a comeback. Ryobi is also better than ever. As is Ridgid.

speaking to the largest french fry manufacturers in the country to get product and samples for this fast casual concept I am helping develop. They all warn of reduced SKU availability due to supply chain issues - I also read about weather issues that did affect a good amount of potato crop out in the midwest as well.

Even better, they are expected to get hammered with serious snow this week. About a foot in most areas.

OK, I got a real first world problem:

My fancy new phone is very nice but the dickhead who designed the body thought it would be so fucking clever to put the USB plug near the corner instead of the center of the body, which is the only place that makes sense. My current dock wont hold it without falling over. Nobody makes a dock with the USB C port towards one side. The company that made the phone does not make a dock for it. A generic dock does not leave room for the cord on the left or right side, they only have a slot in the middle.

Fuckers.

I've been meaning to look for a Project Farm video. I wasn't sure if he'd get into the structural integrity. Just looking at the design of the DeWalt's and Craftsman they are far more structural sound even if they were the same materials and thicknesses.

for some of the power drivers they do drop tests, only the cheapest tools fail a drop test, like the Walmart stuff.

If you have a miter saw you could cut out a custom dock, easy peazy. Check craigslist for a super cheap used miter saw.

Re: my alarm problem on the new phone...
Looked at it before it went off, said the alarm was going to go off in 10-15 minutes, it don't remember exactly when i looked. So i'm thinking cool. Time comes & goes, no alarm. I look at the setting & it says the alarm is set to go off in -1 hour & 1 minute 😵

I had someone else set it to see if i'm doing something wrong.

Don't really drink soda at all anymore, but decided fuck it and went to get some Tiki Punch today. For as long as I can remember Shasta has come in 2.5 liter bottles for .99.

What I saw stumped me so I looked at all the flavors, BOOM Shastas are 2 liter bottles now! this HAS to be Covid's fault! Drinking 2 liters of Tiki Punch in a day just wouldn't be the same as drinking 2.5 liters in a day. shit at that point I might as well just get Hawaiian Punch. Which tastes better, but only 2 liters 🙁

My persistent first world problem continues to be em effers who pull past the limit line in a left turn or straight lane and block the view of us right turners trying to see oncoming traffic. It's especially egregious that most of the offenders are driving big-ass trucks or SUVs.

Yep, cunts.

The other is 2 peeps pulling to the other side of the road sensor so the light doesn't change. Wth?

When I get diagnosed with a terminal illness....
