Me: Fix this before you send it in for regulatory approval. If you do, it's rubber stamp and the project goes forward.
Client: The bureaucrats won't even read it. <sends in w/o fix>
Regulators:

Me: More billable hours. <shrug>

Spectrum sent the equipment to me via Fedex today. However, a technician was supposed to come on Saturday to install it, so this didn't make sense to me.

I'm glad I decided to call in to confirm everything was right in their system because they did not have it scheduled. When I ordered it, the person I spoke to sounded like she knew what she was doing/talking about, so I'll just chalk it up to a system glitch. She definitely told me it was scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday, so it wasn't a misunderstanding.

Thankfully they still had install times on Saturday available. I really hate having to switch between cable providers in order not to be fleeced. Why can't they just give you somewhat of a decent rate to stay with them? I mean, it makes since for a company to want as many customers as they can (some money is better than no money).

The boys were out front today, installing fiber optic.
We'll see what kind of crap I have to go thru to get service.

I remember when they did that in my neighborhood for sure.

They hit a power line down the street, knocking out power for a few hours. Then they hit the water main in front of the neighbor's house, which caused water to be off for about half a day until the city came to repair it.

Finally, they cracked my water main while running the cable under my driveway. A month later I noticed water beginning to seep to the surface of my yard (we were in a drought, so it took quite some time to fully saturate the soil and show itself). After a $400+ water bill and $5,000 water main repair, I got it fixed.

Then it took another 6 months for the insurance company of the company AT&T sub-contracted the project to finally reimburse me for it.

Fun times o_O

Under the driveway??? If I pickup fiber, they'll run it off the pole, to my roof-line and then through a hole in the sill plate (which already exists for cable).

They ran the entire fiber optic line down my the side of the road (their main box for our street sits in between my house and my neighbor's house to my right).

So they had to use some machine to snake the line under everyone's driveway on my street from where they came into our neighborhood.

Had the new Spectrum service installed yesterday, and then proceeded to try to figure out what was going on with the DVR unit. Channels were glitching out, the box kept rebooting itself due to issues.

I tried connecting it to different HDMI ports on our receiver (and then directly to the TV). I ended up talking to tech support multiple times, but nothing helped/worked. So today I ended up driving 45 minutes round trip to exchange the box, and now the replacement works perfectly. I guess I was just lucky enough to get a dud. I really hadn't had to return anything in years due to it being defective, so it kind of sucked having two items in the same week.

On a positive note, the new 4k LG computer monitor came today, and it worked great out of the box. However, in keeping with the spirit of this thread, the included power adapter was probably the biggest wall wart I've seen in some time (the Asus monitor I had to return had an internal power supply, so it was just a regular cable).

Have a video call with coworkers. Meeting ends 5 minutes early. Immediately message one of my coworkers on the call asking a follow up question after meeting has ended. No response. Where the fuck did you go 5 seconds after the call ended that you can't respond?
FAP time. Why are you intruding on his after meeting personal time?!?!

I use a continuous glucose monitor. I've been using a hand held reader because the android app wasn't FDA approved. Well, the android app just recently got approval so I downloaded it last week. Changed out my sensor today and initialized it with my phone.

Found out the hard way that the low glucose alarm overrides mute and volume settings, can't be turned off, and can't be adjusted in any form. It's not uncommon for me to go below the low glucose threshold by a few points at night but I'm hyperglycemic and it's virtually impossible for me to go dangerously hypoglycemic on my current meds.

Once a sensor has been initialized by the phone or hand held unit it cannot be read by any other device other than the one that initialized it. A sensor lasts two weeks. This alarm is really going to piss me off.
I'm with you on that one, I routinely hit around 60 over night. The inability to set that sucks.

I dont know why but for some reason my house needed 3 giant holes in the yard and all the neighbors homes needed one small hole in the yard.
BUT, we're all getting fiber optic internet soon and thats a good thing.

I had covid, I'm fine now but during that time I neglected to shovel snow and now I have like a week worth of snow to deal with. Still waiting for text from my boss but think I'll be allowed to work the rest of my shifts from home so at least I still have a few more days to do it.

Cut my heater hose in half to insert a tap for a coolant flush - but now it won't stop dripping my precious antifreeze. No matter how I tighten the hose clamps around it. So . . . I had to order a new heater hose. Which won't come until Wednesday. Can't drive my car until Wednesday evening at the earliest.
It's a pretty steady drip.

My car has a new O2 sensor, thermostat, radiator, and hoses. Mostly what I accomplished this weekend.

Sorry to hear that. We're you vaccinated? Any lingering effects?

which one is designated the "A" hole?

They ran fiber through my neighborhood a month ago - but it was all pole-mounted.

Yeah double vaccinated. Right now I have lot of coughing but it's getting better. The worse part was 2 days of severe sore throat. Then it gravitated towards insane coughing fits that would basically make it impossible to sleep at night, as they would hit mostly at night. So I was sleeping most of the day.

Now it's at a point where I can sleep at night, so tomorrow will be my first work shift, from home. I hope it's a quite day phone call wise.

I'm searching for images of a historic building. I keep finding images taken from the front steps of the building over the years, all looking down the street. :( :p

I sometimes make the mistake of posting in P&N. I can feel my brain cells dying when I spend any time in there.
I'm pretty moderate when it comes to many political viewpoints, and I have a pretty solid understanding of history as it was one of my favorite subjects ever since I was a young kid.

But this whole thing of far-right and far-left users arguing incessantly, all while screaming that the other side is the real problem / danger makes me want to reach through my monitor, and do the whole world a favor by unplugging the devices they use to that connect them to the internet.

Like the all-wise Maynard sang about in the song 'Fake Affront":
Heard it all before
Shut the fuck up
Heard it all, heard it, heard it all before
Shut the fuck up
Heard it all, heard it

Far Right. Far Left. Same Shit
You can drop the fake affront, pompous ass
Heard it all before

Time for me to pop a few Tylenol for this P&N induced headache.......

You have the 'Let's Go Brandon' slogan in your signature of the hardcore right-wing Trumpie cult, which is a slogan that leaves zero options for reasonable debate, using reason in general, or considering any facts in general, it just says FUCK YOU to the other side, and you are complaining about posting in P&N.

You just can't make this shit up folks, this is how far gone people are.

Oh irony is dead.

Wow I just turned signatures on for the first time in years. I guess signatures with images in them are no longer a thing?

You must be lost. This is the place we bash P&N - not actually P&N. P&N is a place where we can all go when we are feeling a bit insane or want to mingle with the insane ;).
