We had to have our oldest dog put down today. We got him in August 2007, and he was right at 14 1/2 years old.

He had been slowing down for sometime now, and everything was normal with him up until last night when I fed him. After eating, he began hemorrhaging blood out of his nose, and it lasted for several hours. There was blood everywhere. It really, really sucked and came out nowhere. Up until it happened, he was doing his normal stuff.

We got him (a Border Collie) from the pound when our kids were 6 and 7 years old, and now they're going into their sophomore and junior years in college. As sad as my wife and I are, it really hit the kids the hardest. They at least they got to spend a few extra hours with him until the animal hospital opened up (and thankfully the bleeding stopped and it didn't happen again before he was put to sleep).

All I know is I am just mentally and physically exhausted as I got about 2.5 hours of sleep last night.
I'm sorry for your loss. Letting go of family is so hard.

that's is super tough. dogs are family and he was like their sibling. he lived over 14 years old though, that's great for a dog really of any size. but it's pretty hard to think of that when you are grieving. he is in doggie heaven that's for sure.

Damn sorry to hear. This is always a hard time. My cat is getting up there in age too, got her maybe a year after my first nephew was born and he just turned 19. Was in high school when I got her, went through college, and buying a house, and now been in my house for a bit over 10 years. Crazy how fast time goes. I just hope that when she goes it will be quickly.

My condolences. It's tough as hell to lose a fur kid. Both of ours have that final vet appointment this Friday. The oldest, 17 1/2 had what we think was a stroke over Easter weekend. He's lost a lot of his mobility. Can't climb stairs, falls down while walking in the yard, etc...and now, he's started having trouble breathing. (like COPD) We got him in May 2004 at about 6 months old. He's been with us more than 1/4 of my life.
The other one, yorkie/chihuahua turned 15 last month. He's been developing neurological issues...sometimes, he just sits and twitches his head while going blank. Kind of like a seizure. He's developed the "fatty tumors" all over his body...the vet says odds are, at least some of them are cancerous.
Both dogs have lost most of their teeth and can only eat soft food.

As much as it hurts...it's time. Their quality of life has really degraded...and I don't want them to suffer just because I don't want to let them go.

Why are electric scooters still using lead-acid batteries?
i bought an electric scooter 10+ yrs ago and it had a lead-acid battery.

they're horrible for scooters.
lead acid battery is the same stuff as a car battery.

if you discharge it more than 50%, it'll never recharge back to full.
keep discharging it below 50% and soon you'll have a battery that will barely hold a charge. (Did this on my electric scooter. :( )

That 10mile range it advertises only happens once.
once you go past 5 miles before recharging, it'll never go 10miles again.

Why arent there electric scooters with ni-mh batteries or even lithium-ion like those in your laptop/Tesla?

Now lockdown is over, the roads are busy and slow again
And...everyone forgot how to drive. Blinkers - you turn those on AFTER you start to turn. It's fine to pull into someone else's lane and then hit the brakes - totally expected behavior. Tailgating is an art form, success is achieved only when the vehicle in front can no longer see your headlights. I know this has always existed, but now it's reached epidemic proportions.

I live near a school and my street is basically unusable after 3pm because of all the soccer mom SUVs parked on both sides and then school buses trying to navigate in between the cars. None of that this year, and it was so nice. Going to start back up this September though I imagine. Will need to plan my outings around that. Need to make sure I don't need to leave or arrive after that time. I just don't get it, when I was a kid we either took the school bus, or we walked. There was none of this thing of having parents pick us up every single day. I mean sure, sometimes it happened if there was certain plans, but not every day.

Just put up a sign on your lawn that says you have covid, they will steer clear of your place.

Sorry Boomer and UsandThem. Sucks losing a friend, even if they aren't human.

My fwp today was I went to Royal Farm for lunch, and got some fried chicken. I usually just drink the water I take to work with me, but was perusing the drink aisle. I saw the store branded "sparkling water", and thought some seltzer would be a nice treat, so I got the kiwi/strawberry variety. Open it up, and it's FUCKING SWEET. It's also way overflavored. I didn't realize it was a shitty "soda, but not soda really, trust us" product. I wish plain old seltzer, either flavored or not was more popular around here. Americans have the palates of children. Everything's loaded with sugar, either real or otherwise :^S

Fixing to replace pedal bearings cause fat boy has mashed them to dust and realized they put the tire on backwards after the broken spoke. Doesn't matter unless it's raining but still.

I am watching Chinese anime on Youtube. For some reason they like to stick "BluRay" in the title. These are streamed in the first place, thus not BluRay sourced :colbert:

Insanely swamped at work today, it's just not stopping.

And on top of that one of my domain's SSL cert expired, for some reason the auto renew script stopped working and the cert expired but I don't have time to troubleshoot it because of how freaking busy it is. (I fucking hate the way SSL works, why does there have to be a middle man)

Sugar is life for many Wall Street companies and dentists. Get 'em addicted early, the money will come in due time. One must ask why the fuck dental implants are an extant business for non-athletes?

I'm a sweets addict myself. Despite my previous vows and pledges to go quasi-diabetic, I binged on custard pie filling and éclairs these past couple days, although I rinse and clean with a Waterpik, etc. It's like my body can't handle salt, veggie, and meat like I want to.

Omg this day just gets worse.

Just lost satellite link to one of our james bay sites. Have a totally different unrelated issue in James Bay that I've been dealing with all day so far. Nobody is answering their phone, ended up escalating to a high up network architect who normally does not touch this but after escalating to second level manager he gave the OK and will handle any union related grievences that fly.

The same people that were not answering their phone for the first problem would be the ones I would call for this new problem.

Then I got a potential power issue at another site but it's on an island. I feel the place might be on fire, literally. Just really weird alarms.

That's not counting all the other stuff I'm dealing with.

It's a day.

I'm not even touching the satellite issue now, I need to eat something. I will try to go in the mux after and see if I can kick it to the B side. That usually does not work though. The MUX shelf is probably older than I am and sometimes it shits the bed.

Power shut off. 1,000+ residents affected. It's 95F so I don't want to sit around at home without cooling. Had to drive to another part of town to post on AT. j/k

Power outage this morning. The generator shut itself off because too much CO in the air (garage door open). Had to walk out to the detached garage and open a window. Nanny generator.

If my power goes out too long I have to drag a super long extension cord out to the shed to plug into the inverter so I can get power. That means having to go outside. Been meaning to actually run an underground feed and just been lazy. That and price of copper right now is nuts. I need to at least start on the inside wiring though, got the sub panel to hang on the wall, plenty of 14awg romex on hand and a bunch of wiring boxes and outlets. Going to just put an outlet in each room and one in the server room that feeds from the solar sub panel.

As for the current FWP it's still nuts at work. I don't think I've ever had a day this brutal before. It was non stop from the beginning. 2 more hours to go. I think I'll be crashing in bed as soon as I get home.

Bro was bitching about a copper ball valve. Was $52...now $102.
