Yeah I really need to force myself learn more recipes and to cook more, I just hate doing it, it's so much work for just me and I have no clue what I'm doing, I have to google every single ingredient and it turns into a big research project then I give up and order something lol. But yeah I could probably save a couple hundred per month at least if I stopped eating out so much. It's not a lot but it's something.
I personally don't mind food austerity.

Just straight up eating 27% fat Ground beef+salt can satisfy me.
Or making pork shoulder soup. Boil the meat, toss in vegetables. Salt+MSG.

Burned up my brushcutter today. Just stopped while I was using it, and when I looked at the back, there was a big leaf over the air vents. I think it overheated. Took the muffler off, and looked in the exhaust port, and the piston's trashed. Looks like parts alone to fix it are $300. I'm not gonna bother right now. I have another identical cutter, and it's all I really need. Might just keep the dead one for parts.

Oh wow that sucks, broken hip at that age is no joke. Hope she'll be able to recover ok. Happened to my great grandma, and she was no longer able to stay alone in her appartment anymore after that and got moved to the hospital until there was a room at the old age home. She never even got to see her apartment after that. Kind of sad.

Same exact thing that happened with my mom. :(

Ma got a rod in her femur. Broke it at the joint. Started PT. If she can do 3hrs each day for the next 10 days, she stays at the hospital. If she can't, 30 days in a rehab and the ones here kind of suck. Good spirits but I didn't let her have any...meds and all.

She'll get back home even if we have to hire part/full time care. Pops wouldn't spend a dime when he was alive so she's good to go.

Got an email from Potbelly saying free cookie with sandwich purchase. Tried to log into my account to see the details. Don't know the password. Tried resetting multiple times but I keep getting an error about my session timing out.

My mom was also suffering from dementia and had serious willpower issues sticking with any rehab at all. Ultimately that more than any other single thing led to her being confined to a nursing home. (it was a nice one but was the last thing she would have wanted)

The SINGLE most important factor (per my moms docs) for an old person pulling through from a broken hip is doing the rehab and getting back on their feet so anything which assists there is the best money you can spend.

Bro just called, hospital called him and said she's not able to do their pt regimen and they're booting her out in an hour. Dafuq?

I'm not an MD but from what I was told the absolute worst thing possible is for her to get used to lying in bed.

It pains me to suggest this but I would lawyer up and make it clear to the hospitals legal department you'll be doing so. (that's all that motivates the bean-counters)

Also look into a private therapist.

EDIT: Note the below link is scary stuff ... I apologize for that but you should be mentally prepared for what you are up against. (I wasn't)

Older people face tougher recovery from hip-fracture

For sure. I went 8 months with basically no cardio because of the 2 surgeries. Finally got back on my bike in May, the 1st month was brutal.

My Bro is running the show, knows a ton of people and doesn't tolerate any BS. I was waiting on the explosion but he just called and whoever he talked with agreed to let her stay for a bit longer.

Good article.

Medicare will only pay for rehab if it's working. Otherwise, it's considered long term care and they don't cover that so out mom goes.

Not sure how they can figure it's not working since surgery was just yesterday. She has been on a walker for several years so I guess they have a good idea.

Daughter is having a high-class grand opening for her skin care business. Champagne, hors d'oeuvres, swag bags...whole 9 yards. She asked my wife to buy bottled water for the event. She went to Sam's Club and preceded to purchase 2 cases Members Mark water. Her clients are going to be spending $300-$500 each for services and giving them a bottle of generic warehouse store water will throw off the whole vibe.

Guess who had to spend their lunch break going back and buying 2 cases of Evian?

2 opportunities for pics in the same post. And I don't mean the water.

Funny thing is all the water probably all comes from the same factory, it's just a different bottle.

Evian specifically doesn't and there are a few others which are what they claim to be on the label for source like Fiji. Still mostly just a scam though.

Should have gone with San Pellegrino.

Fiji Water

Call these guys and ask them! (I have no idea) ;)

Last time I read an article about spring water in Consumer Reports Fiji was one of the few that was actually what it claimed to be AND was also extremely pure/healthy.

Evian was also "authentic" but was tested and found to be less healthy due to mineral content.

I have no use for bottled water.

It's great when there's a natural disaster or when going to a live sporting event since they're allowed in many ... aside from that not so much.

Serious answer I'll bet an awful lot of Fiji's precious fresh water supply ends up just polluting the ocean with more plastic from the fancy bottles.
