Bad news is that $40k is essentially a "drop in a bucket" when care for a serious illness can easily run into multi-millions by the time its over.

The only folks that have zero worry about medical costs in America are NOT Tesla-investors ... more like Tesla Musk himself and similar level super-rich folks. (the real 1%)
Which is why I reluctantly carry this crap health insurance. I still remember my dad's hospital bill and that was 20 something years ago when medical prices were still somewhat reasonable.

fat lab. She's good at swimming and digging due to her webbed feet. So I can't hide it in a lake or bury in the ground.

Unfortunately you are 100% correct.... this is why to a large degree I REALLY just don't give 2 craps anymore about paying anyone back for anything. (does not apply to individuals/small business)

A planned bankruptcy every 7-8 years after running up MAJOR debt may well become the best "financial plan" for most Americans.... would serve those corporate-scumbags right getting a taste of their own medicine.

Sucks if you want to own any land though, since they will come after it. But that's all part of the plan.... you will own nothing and be happy.

I literally would not be able to afford that I only have a couple hundred bucks left over at the end of the month after all expenses. If I get sick, I'd just die I guess even if it's something easily treatable.

Many people qualify for subsidies for lower actual monthly payments. But highland and I make too much money according to the government so we don't qualify for any subsidy. Which is why we both have the cheapest plans from our respective state exchange.

Yeah, I make just enough to not get jack except a tax bill. I either need to cut my income (covid is helping with that) or double it.

My $15 box fan died. It was about 5yo.

Technically I'd probably make too much too. I make a bit over 80k which is considered fairly high end, but most of that is taken up by bills since everything keeps going up. Governments really need to do something about inflation as it's essentially killing off the middle class. I should have tons of extra money with my salary but there's just no place to cut. Though I do eat lot of fast food, I could probably cut that out and at least gain a few extra hundred maybe. My weekend cost me $70 with skip the dishes. So yeah that is probably one place I do need to look into cutting. I only get delivery when I'm at work though since I can't leave the building.

Windows update is bringing my laptop to it's knees. Installing the July 13 update and the fan is spinning at 100%. It finished installing and went to the shut down screen where it says "Getting Windows Ready Don't turn off your computer," and the hourglass has been spinning with no progress for the last 15 minutes.

Don't know how national Fresh Market is but it's our local "quality" store....and expensive. Tuesdays are half price chicken breasts/ground beef. Last week, paid $23 for 3 packs of each. 6 meals plus my lunch the next day. Costs $23 for the wife and I to eat at the Waffle house.
Hope mom recovers fast and well highland.
Thanks. She's a bit cra but the rest of her health is great. 90+ is what her side of the fam does.

I tried to download a video with youtube-dl, but it wouldn't work. Figured something broke when I upgraded debian. First I got a python error, so I apt installed python, and it started working, but wouldn't connect to anything. After jumping through hoops, and looking around online with a few reboots in between, I set my phone up to wifi hotspot instead of usb tethering, and it worked fine.

Not sure what's going on with that. Other internet seemed to work ok, but perhaps had a bit of lag on usb. I hadn't tried youtube-dl since I got my Moto E, so I never saw an issue. Dunno why wifi works, but usb doesn't. It's not a huge deal. I can just use wifi, but I'd like to find the cause of the issue. Kinda strange.

Looks like the presence is on the East Coast and eastern Midwest. Didn't know they existed but they are in my local Maryland county.

Definitely hurt your feels if you shop regularly. I need vanilla extract the other week for ice cream. $20 for 4oz....Costco is going to hook me up for way cheaper.

Ma had an argument with the floor. The floor won. Broken hip. 80yo. Boomer might be able to catch her now. Vegas says 2 to 1.

Oh wow that sucks, broken hip at that age is no joke. Hope she'll be able to recover ok. Happened to my great grandma, and she was no longer able to stay alone in her appartment anymore after that and got moved to the hospital until there was a room at the old age home. She never even got to see her apartment after that. Kind of sad.

Yeah I really need to force myself learn more recipes and to cook more, I just hate doing it, it's so much work for just me and I have no clue what I'm doing, I have to google every single ingredient and it turns into a big research project then I give up and order something lol. But yeah I could probably save a couple hundred per month at least if I stopped eating out so much. It's not a lot but it's something.

I find that program can be hit and miss. Since Youtube changes their back end a lot it has to be kept up to date, but distros don't always update it fast enough.

Debian(stable) is especially bad. I wouldn't even bother, though I did do it as part of the troubleshooting process. I keep directory in home for programs I don't want to centrally install, and youtube-dl is one of them. I added the path to .bashrc, so it works like a real installed program, and I just update it through youtube-dl
