You ONLY started to floss? You must have had all kinds of cavities.
Other than removing the occasional irritant that gets stuck and continues to bug me, I floss about twice a year. My dentist always tells me "it looks like you've been flossing well."

Zero cavities, zero fillings. I occasionally use mouthwash (about once a week).

ADA pulled their flossing recommendation when the FDA asked for proof of flossing's effectiveness. I think that flossing is a lot more necessary if your oral hygiene suffers in other ways but that it is not required for good oral health unless you have a gun infection. Probing for potential gum infections is why I floss a couple times a year and if I find a lot of blood I floss for a few days until it goes away.

That's it. I get my teeth cleaned at the dentist once every couple years and always get a clean bill of dental health. Last time the dentist said he wanted to trade teeth with me.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor/dentist and it may just be my micro-biome or diet or something, but understand that it does work for at least some people. Heck, the ADA/FDA changes probably reflect that it's more people than the industry was previously willing to admit.

This may be more the case.

It's common sense to know that food particles stay between your teeth and can lead to cavities. I'm actually thinking of buying one of those water flossers.

Good news: I eat 90% fast food. ;)

I actually very rarely get anything noticeable stuck between my teeth. All are tightly touching and the gums are not receding, so no real gaps.

been feeding a couple cats, and the little calico didn't show up this morning. I hope she's ok. I especially liked her.

Also, I mowed the lawn for the first time today. It was a week overdue, even by my lax standards, and starting to look like a meadow. I don't have a problem with meadows, but the neighbors probably wouldn't like it. Bad times are here. Hot weather and lawn mowing are two of my least favorite things :^(

They are moving some of alarm points to this new crappy HP monitoring program and now all our alarms will be mixed with managed services stuff (routers, switches, customer stuff etc). You have to scroll horizontally just to see what the alarm is since the first 5 rows are all useless BS. The program crashes all the time, the alarms sometimes come in an hour late. etc. Tons of issues, but they all fall on deaf ears. They are dead set to continue moving stuff to this crappy program. We were never even consulted - we're the NOC, we're the ones that will actually be using it. Typical corporate BS. They never consult the people who should be consulted when they make decisions.

I guess at the end of the day, as long as I have a job and get paid. :p But seriously this program is so bad and tedious to use it is enough to make me consider a different job.

Take your child to work day. Which is fine.

But somebody brought a dog, which by the sounds of things, one or more people are teasing and laughing at. (I smell pizza.) The dog is kinda freaking out - yelping and stuff.

I can't stand people that take their dog everywhere like stores and what have you. Stores should be waaaay off limits unless the dog is for medical reasons.

Maybe some of the people you're seeing with a dog do have one for medical reasons. I've heard of veterans with PTSD that rely on the presence of their dog to help them cope.

Negative. I know these people don't need the dog for medical reasons. Especially if it's a chow and some other fuzzy little bastard. If it was a lab or Shepperd, I'd be inclined to think otherwise.

Yesterday I was out running an errand and did have to slam on my brake to avoid T bone another vehicle from the opposite side. The driver turned left and did not see me at all because she was too busy chit chat with her passenger. Oh and then at a stop, a guy in the front just dumped out cigarette butts on the street from his vehicle.

Goodness.

Just one specific dog, and it's not a person who's brought a dog to work before. Just a wanker who's "child" is their pooch.

Also, a properly trained service dog is serious business. You do not fuck with a service dog.

I love a nice lawn and have spent a crap ton of $$ on mine. We had 80s in February and it greened up. Just in time for a nice low of 18. Half of it is fucking dead. If the fake shit wasn't $12-14/foot installed correctly, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Eff me.

Changed the oil in my truck today. Went much easier than last time, but it's still a pita. There's a cross brace that's right in the way of draining oil, so it splashes everywhere. The filter is horizontal, and behind some hoses so you're guaranteed to slop oil when taking it off. I'm pretty sure auto engineers are fuckin' trolls.

Went to the grocery store and the place was ass bumping aisle to aisle. Then I was looking at some meat products and along comes three other people. I'm like WTF? Am I a damn magnet or what. FUCK! Hate that crap where you can't move anywhere in the damn store.

I try to go on off hours. My favorite store is wegmans. If you aren't familiar, it's a premium grocery store(though you don't /have/ to spend a lot), and huge. Going during normal shopping time, I feel like a squirrel on a highway. People everywhere, going in all different directions. I like to go before 8am on a saturday or sunday. Much more manageable, but it's before the sushi is made which is always a disappointment.

Yeah, I went last night after 10 PM and that was a dream. Hardly anybody.

The same can be said for Walmart. Oh what fresh hell that store is and then you feel like your feet just walked a 4k marathon because you have to trek so far to get anything. I really do think at home delivery will catch on. :)

Huge storm passing through so it's ridiculously busy at work.

Power went out while I was in the shower at home before I came here at work. Now I lost total access to my house, I really hope it's the fibre that got damaged and not the batteries dying... If all my stuff went down hard that is going to be a lot of hardware damage and corruption. I really need to automate that so it starts to shut stuff down in proper order when voltage gets too low. Just something I never got around to doing.

I'm stuck here at work for 12 hours until I can figure out what happened. This is going to be a long night. I just hope it's just a communication issue and that the servers are still ok. The voltage looked ok last I checked... but it's been years since a multi hour power outage.

Shit man. That suxx. I hope you have UPS's. I've heard many a horror story on forums where people complained the power went out and all of a sudden their computer wouldn't boot again. I don't know why that would be. But I've seen my fair share of help threads relating to it. One of the reason why I want to invest in a Tripplight UPS. I believe its USB connection can automatically power the computer off.

Oh I have a big Trippe Lite with like 400AH of batteries. Problem is it did not last as long as I would have expected so never got a chance to shut stuff down properly. Was monitoring voltage and it looked fine, then just lost connectivity to the whole network. There is a chance it's the fibre that's cut, I'm hoping it's that and not the UPS but I won't be able to know till tomorrow morning.

I've been wanting to move to a dual conversion 48v system with bigger batteries but I want to learn to design my own PSUs as it will be cheaper. It's hard to find 48v stuff it seems. All these companies that boast how great their products are but don't have an option to actually buy it or see prices.

Even if it is the fibre, the ETR for power outage is 10pm so it will drop before then.

I really need to invest in more batteries. They pay for themselves the first time they are needed.

Ain't that the truth.

What kind of storm is this? Rain or snow? Spring is a bitch here in CO. It's wet and heavy so it will break tree branches and cut off power, but most of the town's residential power distribution is buried.

Wow it came back!

I think I just realized what happened. The ONT UPS probably died. So my UPS keept running. Well that's a relief and a half.

The ONT is suppose to last like 8 hours though, but that's not really my problem, it's my ISP's, I'll have to test later to see if that is what the issue was and if yes I'll just get a new battery from them. I could plug it into my own UPS if I really wanted to but I feel it's a less critical piece of equipment so if it fails it does not cause any permanent damage. It just causes a heart attack apparently... lol

I just had a thought. What if you get a cellphone modem for Internet redundancy so when the fiber is offline you still have an Internet connection for just the telemetry? :)

I can see that. The only other thing I can think of and may be feasible is a landline dial-up connection. They do have them out there. I used one once that offered 10 hours a month for free. I had to use that in conjunction with my FTP to download NIC drivers to a very old HP laptop which didn't have any way of getting the drivers on there. No USB, optical drive, etc. It worked like a charm. Crazy thing was I have Comcast voice and I used that for the dial-up connection. It's like Internet over Internet. LOL Was pretty neat, but I guess a fax machine could be used on it too.

Either way I'd have to pay for an extra service. So cellular would make more sense as a backup if I'm going to pay for something. But it's not really important enough really. It does not happen often enough to justify a monthly cost.

I could have something that goes to my alarm company though if I really wanted to. Hook a water sensor to a relay and I can pretty much have them monitor anything I want. Of course the device that activates the relay would almost need to be on it's own completely separate UPS.
