Other than removing the occasional irritant that gets stuck and continues to bug me, I floss about twice a year. My dentist always tells me "it looks like you've been flossing well."You ONLY started to floss? You must have had all kinds of cavities.
Zero cavities, zero fillings. I occasionally use mouthwash (about once a week).
ADA pulled their flossing recommendation when the FDA asked for proof of flossing's effectiveness. I think that flossing is a lot more necessary if your oral hygiene suffers in other ways but that it is not required for good oral health unless you have a gun infection. Probing for potential gum infections is why I floss a couple times a year and if I find a lot of blood I floss for a few days until it goes away.
That's it. I get my teeth cleaned at the dentist once every couple years and always get a clean bill of dental health. Last time the dentist said he wanted to trade teeth with me.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor/dentist and it may just be my micro-biome or diet or something, but understand that it does work for at least some people. Heck, the ADA/FDA changes probably reflect that it's more people than the industry was previously willing to admit.
