There's two jobs at my company that are more up my alley. One is a server job, and it's internal, which means it's non customer facing. It's for internal server/network only. The other job is for networking, which would be a really interesting job, they do all sorts of network related deployments and maintenance from Cisco stuff to IP, VPNs, Voip etc...
It's super rare for my company to post new jobs let alone two in my field, they've been laying off a lot and downsizing every department. So now I need to decide if I apply to one or not, as it will be the last chance I get for probably a long time.
But, I'm also really happy where I am. It's 40h weeks instead of 37ish, so more money, it's also shift work so I get way more time off. And night shifts are nice as you don't need to get up early. There's also lot of BS going on at my job lately though. Decisions decisions....
I think I'll stick to my current job and just ride out the BS though. I really can't imagine willingly going back to an 8x5 job. I may as well ride this job out for as long as possible. My fear is always that they close us down though, a NOC can pretty much be moved anywhere at a whim. But then again so can any other job that is at a desk.
