I was playing with settings to get different effects too.
My first world problem is that my current Linux distro does not have Raw Studio, which is what I used to process raw images before I upgraded. The closest program is Dark Table which is pretty good but taking a lot of getting used to, and for some reason the raws come out very grainy. Was going through those northern lights pics as it would be cool to get one printed and framed, but they were all too grainy and would look like some modern art made with a dot matrix printer lol.

Yeah these politics are silly, just glad to see it might finally happen. I really hope they just allow people to grow their own, sadly I don't think they will. I don't smoke it myself and probably won't start, but I just hate the idea that a plant is illegal, it's just completely stupid.

Complicated subject. Cocaine and Heroine are essentially just refined plants too. Part of me wouldn't mind them legalized actually. I mean, prohibition hasn't exactly prevented large numbers of crack/heroine users from becoming addicts...

Yeah I feel the same way even about the hard drugs. If people really want to do that stuff they'll find ways. The resources and effort should go towards trying to help people not do them, not putting them in jail for doing it. At least if they are legal the obtaining process is going to probably be safer. It would be like smoking, it's bad for you, people might tell you you should not do it, but it's your own choice at the end of the day.
Some of these hard drugs are downright nasty though, like Krokodil etc... I'm not sure how I feel about those... but really same thing, spend less effort putting people in jail, and more effort on educating. If people still choose to go down that path, it's not any different than becoming an full blown alcoholic.

Boss gave us a 25lb smoked ham today. I had to cut it up so I could freeze some of it because it's just too much. Was terrible the time it took to cut it all off the bone, then my dog whined cause he wanted some so had to give him a hunk. Will probably never eat it all. woe is me.

Semi-serious mini-rant.
My #fwp today is that I'm getting sick of listening to reasonably-educated young people complain about their life. I'm not talking about silly things like first-world problems (this thread is great & I'm not knocking it at all), I'm talking about legitimately complaining. I like to read & enjoy keeping up on world news, partly because it gives me a healthy perspective of just how good I have it here in America & how fortunate I am to be where I am at. I wasn't born a child soldier. I wasn't born as a baby addicted to heroin. I wasn't born in a North Korean prison camp. I live better than kings did hundreds of years ago...the grocery store has any food I want, any time of the year regardless of it being in-season or not locally; I have heat & air conditioning, and if I want to (or am forced to) quit contributing to society through working at a job, there are shelters, soup kitchens, and other programs to help me survive.
There's never really been a better time or place to be alive in the recorded history of the world. I have as much access to resources as I'm willing to work for. Endless education through books & the Internet. Nobody is kidnapping me from my home. I don't have to show my passport to drive to another state. Even in a down economy, life isn't nearly as horrible as it is in other places. And yet I hear, especially younger people, just endlessly complaining. I don't know if it's laziness or the so-called Millennial attitude or what. I'm actually not a big believer in the idea of the Millennial thing because whiners have always existed in every generation, they just have a louder voice now thanks to social media...but it's nothing new, not by far. The older working folk complain that kids today entering the workforce are more needy, but from my perspective, they just have more exposure to the world & are willing to call companies out on crappy behavior because they feel like they deserve to be treated better (anyone here who has worked in the food industry or in retail can relate, I'm sure). So I don't really buy into that.
I almost wish that every high school student had to go on a one-year world tour to the crappiest places in the world to not only see how good they have it, but also to get motivated by seeing the difference in everything they have access to. I'm not talking about visiting historical sites, I'm talking about actually experiencing it. Maybe VR has the power to do that in the future, although even VR still has a huge sense of disconnect from the reality of the situation, like when you watch news stories about terrorism in foreign countries & then flip back to watching your sitcom. It just makes me want to smack some sense into people when I hear them actually, literally complaining about things in their life that literally billions of other people are lacking.
I think part of it is that a lot of people have no sense of history. If you've ever watched stuff on WWII, it was absolutely insane during that time. The people who fought & sacrificed for us to live the lives we can today, to live in a world where we can complain about things that don't really merit whining about, probably alternate between laughing & crying about some of the attitudes they see today. I dunno. It's just really been bugging me lately. I've heard like three people this week dive into serious whining about stuff that they have the power to fix & I dunno, are just lazy, or lack perspective, or I have no idea. Maybe they just feel trapped & don't realize where they really stand in the world.
So my first-world problem today is that I have to listen to people - people who are literally living in the top 1% of the world - complain about life not meeting their requirements, mostly because they don't want to work to make their lives better. Or something. I don't know. Get off my lawn 😀
