Wegmans doesn't have higher value($100-$200) Visas anymore. Pretty much everything is $25 or less. WTF?! It's not 1960 anymore. $25 doesn't buy much. I liked the brand at Wegmans cause it didn't have "maintenance fees". You paid once and were done. Now I need to find another source :^(

I started a basic cleanup in my garage to try to make more room in there. I have too much stuff, and did not get very far. I really need to build a shed, no way around it. Snow blower, lawnmower and other such things are what is taking up so much room. I did organize lumber better though, and there's a lot of scrap that I put in a pile to cut up smaller for camp fire. I probably don't need to be holding on a piece of crown molding from my cabinets anymore. I kept it "just in case" it gets damaged or something, but odds are slim.

I almost bought a Visa/MC gift card yesterday. Almost got over the activation fee of ~$5. Almost.

I think there's a reloadable card but it has a monthly maintenance fee so your balance decays...

If you buy the ones that are NOT reloadable (GIFT) then you only have to pay about $5-$6 per card and they will be good for a few years. The ones I posted earlier will be good until 2024 and no other fee.

I use them cause it's no one's business what I buy. I prefer paying cash in person, but I can't always do that, so I either use prepaid visa, or someone else's card. They're also good for anonymous donations. I want to give money when I want to, and never hear about it again.

Dunno about the difference between credit and debit. If you wanted to use them for gas, credit would cost more at many places, but I use cash for gas.

I've found myself using gift cards lately to "convert" cash directly to some form of payment that's usable online. I could deposit the cash into the bank and use it to pay my credit card, but I got most of my cash by selling old shit and keep track of it separately from my regular expenses. Too bad about those activation fees cause Visa/MC gift cards would be a lot easier to use anywhere.

I was paying $6.95 for a $200 card; so ~3.5% for privacy. That's a bargain.

^I'm used to gift cards at the stores I frequent -- there are a lot fewer in Canada -- not having any fees, so the activation charge feels like a rip off.

However, the fee makes sense since Visa/MC only get like 3-5% of the card back in transaction fees. They'd lose money on $100 or lower gift cards probably. And the fact that you can use them anywhere is worth a premium.

I'll probably cave at some point. It's so much easier to get a Visa/MC/AMEX gift card since some stores only sell physical cards online or at their stores. What I really want is a reloadable card but I think that one has a monthly "maintenance fee."

Walmart sells the vanilla mastercard and it costs $4.95/100 to activate it and you can't reload it. The reloadable card has a per transaction fee unless you conduct a minimum dollar amount each month of transactions on it.

I did not just use them for myself. Most of the cards were fine as debits but for some reasons, these three cards did not work as debits, therefore, I did have to use them as credits and they were fine. Prepaid cards can be used for many purposes. One was to tell where, when, and how much was spent (my relatives can not spend them in bars and clubs and tell me that they spent those cards at grocery stores) and they are safer than cash.

The reason I want to use them as debits so I could get some discounts instead of credits.

I'm contemplating a Santa Monica trip this winter. I saw that the Metro station in Santa Monica is now operational so I thought I could avoid renting a car and just take the train from LAX to Santa Monica. Except that the train doesn't actually reach LAX. It gets sorta close but then just doesn't get there. I read that Metro and the airport authority are working on a fix but why LA? Why?
