One of my iPod Classic 160s died. Well, it's still alive but is a dead iPod walking. Some of the pins on the dock connector corroded and will no longer make contact with any cord I've tried. :'( It is otherwise fully functional. The local Apple repair shop won't touch iPod Classics as they were designed to be all but impossible to open.

I wonder if there is such a thing as a long reach iPod connector?
Yesterday I stopped at a university surplus store and bought a fully functional 4th gen iPod Touch 64 for $20, (okay, so this line is a brag not a tale of misery).
