Our corporate IT folks pushed out an image update to all users and it f'ed up. The IT folks run test groups before pushing corporate-wide but no one in the group seemed to notice all the stuff that doesn't work anymore (no sound/mics, blank desktop (where did all the icons go?), really slow response from local C: drives. The fix requires manually logging into each user computer to adjust settings. I calculate that the fix will require a person-year in labor to complete.

Must be the same people that did the Rogers update

Sounds like the kind of crap they'd do at my work lol.

I had a kill switch sent to my win 7 machine right in the middle of a night shift, that sucked. Trashed the whole install. My win10 machine was almost ready, there was a bunch of things that didn't work that helpdesk still had to figure out. There happened to be a spare machine in the office that was suppose to be used for another purpose so I ended up being able to open some stuff on that machine and still partially do my job. But since my profile was not setup and not all stuff was accessible it was quite a cripple setup. Thankfully it did not take too long until I just got my win10 machine.

We have an XP machine that we still use, it's a matter of time until they kill that one, I'm surprised it's lasted that long. We backed up what we could off it, but there's a lot of proprietary stuff on there that won't work in windows 10 or that we don't even have installers for.

Got an email a few days ago saying Shire City herbals is out of business. I liked their fire cider. Got a different brand coming tomorrow. Hoping it's an acceptable replacement. I'll also go to wegmans this weekend, and see if there's still stock on the shelves. I'll buy the rest of what they have.

Kittens are too damn small!

My wife trapped a dumped kitten yesterday. Last I had seen her, she was making a mess of toilet paper rolls (the kitten, not my wife). I hadn't heard from the kitten in a bit so I figured I better go find her before my wife got home because that was going to be the first question. So I looked in the bathroom. No kitten. Bedroom, no kitten. Kitchen, nope, living room, nopers. Porch, no one here but us adult cats. I know the house is sealed against kitten escapes so she had to be somewhere. Get out the flashlight and search the kitchen cupboards and the closets even though I know those were closed when kitten was last seen. Carefully remove the bed linens, not a kitten there. Went back to the bathroom and search the cupboards again. That's when I hear the softest of purring. Kitten had gotten up behind one of the drawers and managed to crawl into it from the backside.

This is more of an ongoing problem, but a while back my foot started to hurt and long story short I got diagnosed with morton syndrome. It apparently runs in the family, both my parents have it. Basically I can't put weight on the ball of the foot or walk normally, or very much at all. It's pretty much ruined my summer as I've been restricted to only really being able to sit down. No physical activity or anything. I wanted to start clearing land on my off grid property and start to build but that's not happening. I'm trying to get an appointment for an MRI so it can be diagnosed further and hopefully get surgery but they are backlogged so much they can't even give me an appointment date, let alone an actual appointment. The pain is only getting worse so this is clearly not something that is going to go away on it's own without some intervention. I'm really hoping I can convince them to just give me surgery. Worse case scenario I will try to find a place in the states that can do it but I imagine something like this would be ridiculously expensive especially for a non resident. Mexico might be an option too and would be cheaper.

Come to think of it this feels more like a 3rd world problem. :p As much as the US healthcare system can be a mess, socialized healthcare is not always the best either because of the wait times.

Might have COVID. Or it might just be a bad cold/flu. Really can't tell so far. They stopped offering free tests and I don't fancy going to the 'testing centre' where, it seems to me, if I don't already have it there's a high chance I'll catch it (on top of whatever it is I have already).

Bit miffed that this government has been procrastinating about giving people a 4th jab - my 3rd and final jab was nearly a year ago now.

Morton's neuroma may be caused by pressure or injury, such as from running or use of high heels.

We know you don't run. Is there something you're not telling us?

No high heals lol. But I think I aggravated it snow shoeing, which puts weird pressures on different parts of the foot as it's an unnatural walk. It's genetic though so it would have happened eventually. Both my parents have it.

Could go here, could go in the rants.

Boomer storm came through and woke me up. I have several outdoor cameras, some of which display on a 24" monitor. Noticed that one was dark. The one that views the front yard and roadway (so is one of the most 'critical') and is the most difficult to get to. It's at the end of a 100' run of Cat 5 and up a 25' pole. It's also on a POE adapter so I don't need separate power to it. There are three other POE device connected to a 4 port POE switch/injector and they all were working. On a whim, I killed power to the switch/injector and rebooted it. Sure enough, all four devices came back to life including the one camera. Apparently the ports are protected somehow from surges and this one port tripped out. Power Cycle restored it.

Sure wasn't looking forward to buying a new camera and dealing with replacing it.

Pilgrimage + Vacation abroad. Southern Italy was fantastic. On to Rome. Picked up some intestinal bug. Spending 400+ € / day to sit on the john or crash on the bed using my iPad 😐.

My wife had a major league brain fart and used the the extra container of dishwashing liquid instead of the dishwasher detergent when she started a load of dishes.

It made a lot of bubbles leak out all over the floor. And after that mess was cleaned up, it took another 30 minutes getting all of the suds out of the dishwasher.

That makes no sense, it no detergent was put into the main one, what is the issue?

Bought the last five bottles of vinegar this morning. Cost $60. I already found a replacement for Shire City I like as well, and even better in certain aspects, but it isn't the same, so this small cache will give me some variety for a year or two.

Today, somebody is very persistent in calling my throwaway phone#.
Called like 5 times in a row.
Luckily,I have both ringer and vibration of for that #.

I only noticed because I was surfing the web on my phone when I saw the phone call.

The 6th time the person called, I chose the screen call option where it asks in a computer voice to state persons name and reason for calling.
Person hung up.
Then called backed again.
Screen call again.
Hung up again.

This is one persistent person or the most repetitive robo call program.

I wonder how many times I would have pressed screen call till I gave up and put phone away?

Start calling back 5-6 times in a row around 3:30 am EVERY night.

When they block your number continue calling from an IP-phone... swap the number frequently. (wash, rinse, repeat)

Real first worlders don't answer unknown numbers. Hell they should go straight to voicemail.

Yesterday, my work laptop pops up a message stating that the boot drive is corrupted and I need to reboot to repair the drive. My keen sense of "bad things are about to happen" goes into overdrive so I backup everything to an external RAID. Backing up takes so long that I sort of forgot about the rebooting thing. At the end of the day, I power down and pack up the laptop. This morning, I turn it back on and the drive repair runs automatically. Pass 1… pass 2… pass 3… 100% done. All is good. Goes to the Win thinking spinning dots thing. And spins and spins and spins. I give it a good while but no change. So I hold down the "f' you, I'm a human and you're a thing" button and it keeps spinning. The laptop is bricked. I use my phone to look up how to hard reset and check my email. An email informs me that the company helpdesk is down so I decide that "do first, apologize later" is now a valid strategy and perform the hard reset. Take off the back cover, disconnect the battery, hold the power button for awhile, reconnect the battery, replace the cover, and turn it on. Blessed Mother Mary and her Haploid Son, it worked! My expectation is that the boot drive will be dead dead within a month.

A favorite artist has a new release on bandcamp. I was psyched to listen to it so I got my earphones plugged in and was happily blissing away to the first song and <nothing>. It was a stupid early preview of one song. The rest of the album doesn't drop until the end of October. Tabernak!

What pisses me off is when an artist releases a full album, but only a couple tracks are playable. Joke's on them. They just lost a sale. If I like the album, I'll buy it, but I want to hear the album first.
