So, fun facts, flush condoms in a septic system. Methane fills them up so when you take the tank lid off, dicks galore. Many years ago, my new girlfriend was "explaining" them to her daddy.

😀😀

Did she ever tell you where those "magnum" sized once came from? It's pretty obvious they weren't yours...

Yep. Said her roomie had a fetish for the neighbor's cows. Used dollar General hotdogs to get some bulk. Old bearded guy, claimed some "Best of" title but could never figure out what that was.

F'n smoke detector chirps in the middle of the night again. Google says it's because the colder temps = lower battery voltage.

This time I was actually awake in the home office... it quick-beeped and yelled "low battery". It's right outside in the hallway, nice and close so I don't have to hunt it down. I replace the 2 AAs quickly (battery backup) so it won't wake the rest of the house. But the light is still blinking so I click it once hoping it would take. The entire thing long-beeps and yells "FIRE, FIRE, FIRE" as if I held it to test it... and since it's wired to the whole house... the message was loud and clear for everyone. Just ugh. G'damn these things. Worst part is the 2 AAs I took out are testing just fine.

While we're at it - this is a PSA to replace your smoke detectors every 8-10 years. And when you do, smash the old ones with the might of every night it has pissed you off.

And you believed her?

What a gulli-bull...

Y'know...if she said the guy was old and bearded back then...couldn't have been me...I was neither old nor bearded...Dammit...maybe we both got "sloppy seconds."

It's that weird time of year where it's not really hot out, but also not really that cold, and that means the office A/C is going to start kicking on all the time despite the fact that it's not really needed. It makes the office too cold and it's so damn loud! They have the thresholds set so weird on that and we can't control it anymore.

I can somewhat bump it by a few degrees by turning on a floor mount humidifier, which is basically just a fan but it blows the air straight up to the sensor so it tricks it. Going to have to start making ice again and putting it in it.

I ordered cables from monoprice. They use the USPS. Which means I had a 50% chance of receiving my package according to Newman. My mail carrier recently delivered a letter to me for San Diego which is close to 1200miles south of my location. That is a personal best by the postal service. I ordered a big pack of gum from Amazon last night. This morning there it was on my door step. I will not go into detail about my lost package because my mail carrier left me a note telling me to file a claim saying he/she was new to the route. In psychology they have a few terms. Slow to warm up kids and failure to thrive kids. This mail carrier falls into the failure to thrive category. I know where my package is. In a parcel box on my mail box. Considering the carrier is in the failure to thrive category. Retrieving said package would beyond the capabilities of my mail carrier. I am supposed to take pity upon such an individual.

I harken back to this Seinfeld episode from the 90's. A comedy that borders on accuracy over humor when it comes to the USPS.

Now 10 degrees in the office. I am wearing a coat. My coworker made a ticket over night they are suppose to come check this morning. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Turned off the breaker for now.

10 inside feels much colder than 10 outside. Since yeah if it was 10 outside and sunny it would probably be shorts weather. A tad cool but not more than that. Meanwhile I'm inside in my coat and freezing.

It's at 9 now. I opened the doors to the equipment room since it's warmer in there but without a fan I don't think it's doing much.

I wanted to put a heater closer to my desk but could not find any extension cords. My mom dropped off some extension cords for me, and timmy's! (can't leave the building) Still 10 degrees but at least the heater is keeping my legs warm which is making me feel a bit warmer lol. HVAC tech is suppose to be here soon.

His shed is probably better insulated than this building tbh lol.

They fixed the hvac, turns out the door blew off the unit so it was sucking in outside air so even with the burner running it was basically like AC.

Up to 12 degrees! At least I can take my coat off now. The heat coming out makes it feel less cold.

Still unemployed since December (was furloughed then laid off due to Covid crap).

There's a good amount of software development jobs available but it's just a matter of finding one that is asking for my experience/expertise. I have just under 15 years but it's in .NET/C#, but of course I don't have Azure or Angular/React experience and tons of places want that.

Yeah there is. I was assuming though that places would want someone to have actual on-the-job experience with it, working on projects. But I guess taking some courses and maybe doing a little project on my own could at least tip the scales in my favor hey? Should've thought of this earlier.

I think it's ridiculous that employers will have such specific things as a requirement, when in reality they could fairly easily be learned on the job. The job market is cut throat these days though, most of the time employers just put out job openings to satisfy union requirements but they don't really actually want anyone to be qualified. Then they can hire a TFW for like 1/4 the price. That's why you see a lot of jobs that require 10 years of experience in a technology that has not even been around that long. I've even seen them specify ranges. "At least 5 years of experience but not more than 10". They basically try to make the qualifications so narrow that no one qualifies. They want someone with experience, but not enough experience to know how much they are worth.

When I quit my IT job and the job opening went out to replace me, the requirements were set so high I did not even qualify for my own job lol.

I am assuming you are already familiar with agile methodology, if not pick that up.

Sorry to hear that. Hoping you find something soon. I've been looking for a new job for a while and I know how challenging it can be to apply for things and never hear back from anyone.
