Still annoying to have to deal with that crap and it will always turn itself back on. None of that in older verisons of Windows, or in Linux. If I have to spend my time fighting the OS or installing 3rd party stuff to make it usable then I rather not use that OS. This is not my PC though so whatever, was just saying it's annoying to deal with it always bugging me for crap. I just want to actually USE the machine.

Also still annoying having to make or source out a break out cable, when they could just put the freaking jack on there.

It is there... Combo jack headphone and mic. Like your phone headset.

I had to interact with a windows 10 machine. Gross. I don't know how people say "its fine". Everything about it is just horrible. And holy crap do they ever force you to consent to lot of crap. My church recently got internet and guess because of that it wanted to turn on all the telemetry stuff and there was no way to get out of that wizard. I just wanted to get to the desktop and use the freaking machine! Even task manager would not open up at that point. Was hoping to just find whatever process it is and kill it. I turned it off after I was done, since I'm not sure what internet service they went with and if it's capped. I don't imagine they would have gone with one that is capped though as they got it so they can stream services.

Also what's with modern laptops not having a mic input? Looks like we need to spend more money to buy a Scarlett box.
I woke up my laptop a couple days ago and was greeted by a mouse pointer and a black screen. I could not bring up the Task Manager with CTRL+ALT+DEL though it would take me to the screen with the option for it. I could not log off or shut-down. Win key did nothing. Win+R didn't work. Strangely, CTRL+ALT+Left Arrow did rotate my screen and show a couple taskbar buttons on the left, but still no Start menu and the buttons would not bring up the corresponding browser windows. The taskbar wasn't fully there (no system tray or time/date) and right-clicking didn't give me a shortcut to the Task Manager.

In a situation like this I should be able to use the Task Manager to kill the Explorer process and then use Run to re-start Explorer. I had my power button set to Sleep/Wake so even though Windows 10 was not hard-locked I had no way to properly shutdown or restart. With partial control it should've been easy to recover from but I had no option other than forcing it off. Big fail.

I do wonder if I would have seen wallpaper if I had one (black screen could've just been my usual desktop).

Does this sound like it may have been the same thing you encountered? First time I've had partial control and been unable to get to Task Manager so I assume something changed recently and we both encountered the same issue.

I think this was on purpose that I could not get to it. The system was not frozen but it was locked into some wizard thing that wanted me to essentially consent to the data collection stuff. It was just asking me a bunch of questions about if I want to use my voice to activate stuff then started asking other questions. I think it was triggered by me plugging in the audio cord from the mixer but I'm not sure, could be because the church recently got internet so it now wants to start sending data to microsoft. Either way, it was not letting me open task manager in that full screen wizard and there was no way to get out of it. I ended up having to give in and just say yes to everything and no to the options that gave me a choice.

One was basically something like "do you want full data collection, or only what's required?". Uhhh, NONE of it should be required... but guess I don't have a choice. It's like asking "do you want a lot of cancer or just a bit?" lol. And bunch of other questions about targeted ads etc. There was no way out of it until I consent to it basically.

If ever I'm stuck having to run that abomination of an OS at home I'll probably just block all that at the firewall, I imagine I can get a list of MS's IP ranges somewhere if I search. This particular laptop is mostly used by the church so if Microsoft wants to steal sermon power point presentation or listen on to the service, they can do what they want really, maybe someone at Microsoft will accept Jesus. :p

you should pray to God so that God can remove the data from the cloud. It totally works.

I still find I 'miss-click' a hell of a lot more on Windows 10 than I did on Seven, and am slower at doing things. Maybe it's just my eyes have got worse, but I reckon it's because the loss of things like borders and shadows makes it harder to quickly hit the right spot for closing or resizing windows and the rest.

YES! I hate that so much, there is no way to easily tell GUI elements apart, it's just a huge white blob, it just feels so unnatural. "Can I click on that? who knows until I try". And everything is so huge. If you are not on a 4k monitor you need to scroll a lot. For example take something as simple as the display settings for screen resolution and such. Back in windows 98 times when 800x600 was common, that dialog fit in the screen, and all the settings you needed were at your finger tips. Now? Even on HD that dialog barely fits on the screen and you have to scroll, and there are actually less options. Their use of space is so inefficient.

Deciding which reshade to install in Horizon Zero Dawn for the pc. Actually that's kind of a substantial thing to some gamers. Affects the whole visual atmosphere of a game. Heck almost every problem in this thread is a substantial thing to multiple people.

Ordered four things from Amazon yesterday, all shipped by them. Selected the "Group items into as few shipments as possible" box.

Got e-mail notifications for four separate shipments...

Somehow I always manage to tick the 'use an absurdly-oversized box' box. More than once have received a single micro-sd card in a box about 8 cubic-feet in size.

80 pound "mattress in a box" came from Amazon via UPS today. Think I pulled a muscle in my back carrying it into my house. 100 pound frame for it is coming via Amazon themselves tomorrow...nobody to help me handle it once it's dropped off. Did I mention I weigh 140lbs?

Call your friend with a truck. They're always suckers for helping.

Damned batteries died in the smoke alarm at 1AM. They always die during the night. WTH?

Same. Had one die at the peak of the vaulted ceiling in our master at night. Turns out I don't have a ladder tall enough to reach it - wacked the damn thing off with a broom stick the next morning.
Haven't fixed it yet because I'm too cheap to buy a ladder for one damn project!

That's why you order from Costco. I had new king mattress delivered last week and the delivery people carried it into the room, swapped out the old mattress with new, and hauled away the old mattress. I didn't lift a finger. Costco rocks!

When I was younger...before disability, yes ;) My last 9-to-5 job was delivering 120+lb fire doors in a straight truck by my lonesome, and while challenging, it wasn't impossible. That was about 13 years ago now though...

Yep I really wanted to find something on Costco's site that included the "white glove delivery" but luck had it that it ended up being with Amazon that I found what I needed at the budget I could afford.
