Ugh, I still feel crappy and here I sit at work. I actually called in Friday cause I was feeling really crappy, despite wanting to save that PTO day for Christmas break. Thankfully my manager is awesome and I think I'll be able to make it up by working off-hours.

Thankfully I think it'll be quiet today. I'm the only damn person here from my team, lol. It's snowing out and the roads are fairly shitty so a lot of people are working from home. I cannot wait to get the f home and get in bed for a nap.

My Tasty OneTop temperature probe broke :(

It's a pretty cool little gadget. Basically a portable induction cooktop on steroids. It has 2 temperature probes:

1. Under the pan
2. On a probe (metal needle that plugs into the unit)

So you can use it like a regular burner (low, medium, high, and everything inbetween) to heat stuff up super-fast via induction (requires compatible pots & skillets, such as cast-iron), but also control the pan temperature precisely, or else monitor & control via probe. The probe is useful for a lot of things:

1. Monitoring meat temperature
2. Monitoring water temperature (for sous-viding)
3. Monitoring oil temperature (for deep-frying)

I like it for deep-frying for two reasons:

1. You can hit exactly the oil temp desired (ex. 325F, 350F, 375F)...I always end up overheating the oil when doing it manually & then it stinks up the house lol
2. The temperature typically drops 50F when you add food in to fry (especially frozen food), so you have to manually adjust the temperature to get it back up, and then adjust again to maintain the temperature - thanks to the probe, that happens automatically!

I just use a regular induction-friendly pot to do deep-frying in, and then use this gelatin-clarification technique to re-use the oil: (works to an extent...you don't want to fry fish, clarify it, and then do funnel cakes in it, lol)

Anyway, I wanted make some easy donuts (you can use either canned biscuit dough or puff pastry), but the temp probe plug snapped off, so I got impatient & air-fried the puff pastry donuts instead. They came out alright. Deep-fried is better, but I didn't want to risk making the house smell like burnt oil haha.

What is it with people on cell phones in their cars  It freaking illegal in my state. Stuck at the end of an off ramp thinking the person in front of me was super skittish about moving out to moderate traffic. Finally, after a long gap I get on the horn and watch the person fumbling their phone. Duh....

Spent 80 some odd years with bell south so we can text. 2D communication makes dead poets weep.

Or, at least, the sarcastic ones.

The rules for that are practically worse than drunk driving now, I don't understand why people even chance it. No text or phone call is important enough. Wait till you get to your destination or pull over into a parking lot.

Badly stubbed my toes on a bit of furniture.

Why does that particular utterly trivial injury cause such an over-reaction in me?

Whenever I do that, I unleash a stream of swear words. And then I feel bad and ashamed, thinking of all the people who have gotten shot in wars, or run over, or much worse injuries, and wonder why I'm being such a total wuss about this trivial thing. I go through that same thought-process every time this happens. (Along with having a very brief urge to smash the offending bit of furniture to bits, so as to punish it).

But it's only toe-stubbing, in the domain of trivial injuries, that seems to have that effect (that, and treading in bare feet on an upturned UK electric plug - you Americans are spared that experience I guess). It seems to be worse if my feet are cold, for some reason. Is it just me, or is there something particularly annoying about toe-stubbing?

I almost never walk around barefoot for this one reason. Seems like toes are particularly sensitive to pain.

do you sleep with shoes/slippers on your feet, or do you put them on the second you swing out of bed? I've kicked furniture ( bed, dresser) getting up to piss in the middle of the night. That REALLY wakes me up...and if it happens on the way to the pisser...it really adds to the urgency.

People on phones in cars is fucking ridiculous. TONS of distracted drivers cause of the phones. Agreed; what the fuck is so important? Hint: it's not important. I got my phone stuck to a magnetic thing that goes into my CD player and I normally only touch it for two things: input a map destination, which normally is just to hit Home when leaving work to check traffic, and to press play/pause on an audiobook. I mean I don't think I'm some perfect driver, but damn man, I seriously can't believe there isn't thousands of more crashes than there are (there's plenty already, I know).

Amazon is playing bs games again.

"If you sign up for Prime, you could have same day delivery!"
"No thanks, I don't need Prime."
"Fine, it will be there in ten days."

So my item is sitting in an Amazon warehouse I pass on my way to work everyday. Eventually the f' you countdown timer will buzz and some poor bastard will toss it in a box and send it out.

Database all effed up.

Me: Who owns this property?
Database These three folks own the property.
Me: They all can't own the same parcel.
Database: Can to.
Me: How the hell did someone manage to even enter three owners?
Database: That's what I got, suck it.

In truth, there is only one owner for this parcel. Now that I know that the data is inaccurate, I have to check every record for accuracy, time wasted.

People on the commute into work were driving SO FUCKING SLOOOOOW. Jesus Christ. For the most part the roads were just wet. I wouldn't have driven the regular 70 mph on them, but Jesus 30 mph?! Wow was that painful. It was only in the last few hundred yards could I speed up to a reasonable speed (right at the exit, lol) cause there was enough room. Fucking shoot me.

Comparing health insurance plans for 2020, premiums + out of pocket = $16,300. Thanks Trump.

Riiiight, let's go with that, Skippy...my cheapest 2016 was $16860 with a $12.7K deductible.... but this ain't P&N.

Cheapest 2020 $18480, $16K deductible with a 50% co insurance on ER after that.

I'm dreading when the snow season starts. At the sign of a single snowflake everybody drives half the speed limits; it's like they forget how to drive if they see snow.

Yeah I guess so. And this is frickin Michigan! lol. People seem to either tear ass everywhere or poke. And look at their phones all the time. I'm no perfect driver but I don't think I suck that bad. Oh well.

Oh shit dawg. My co-worker just messaged me this sweet TV deal: Samsung 70" 4K TV for $550. So frickin tempting. Not like I need a new one; my 55" Samsung right now is only a couple years old (maybe a month shy of 2 years, actually), but still. I could sell my current one for $300, I'm sure, and only pay $250 for a nice upgrade. But maybe I'll wait until Black Friday.

LMAO. The last time I did e it was the best. Holy shit was that shit potent; I actually threw up as i was coming up on it cause it was so intense. The first time was just about as good, but the second time I did it sucked. Pills must've not had any MDMA in them whatsoever. Scumbags.

Blow was always decent even though it was probably cut to shit. Oh well, worked pretty frickin well in my experience. This was all in dreams, of course, I wouldn't do that stuff in real life.
