There was a rare bird sighting a couple days ago. The report gave the location and referenced a specific bush to look for. The scene yesterday:

There are another fifteen people not in view. They were all focused on the one bush. I wonder if they know that birds can fly?

There's going to be a lot more of that as more species become endangered and then extinct. I don't know what kind of bird they were looking at but if it's really rare, I'm betting it's also endangered.

Anyway, how about that GPS shit, huh? Meet me at this 1 square foot patch of dirt miles from nowhere - here are the coordinates.

edit: sh*t, forgot what I came here to post. Got a new surveillance system that claimed to be wifi. So naturally, I figure that it's going to go through my router or one of the wireless gateways, or both depending on signal strength. But nope. The base unit/dvr is ethernet only. Cameras pair with the base when you plug them in. Those are wireless but also have ethernet ports.

From a security point of view that's probably a really good idea considering the fact that so many people never change the default admin logins. As a card carrying geek, of course that would be the first thing I would do. And I was looking forward to maybe having one less wire across the ceiling.

Moving out of my apartment and I called the natural gas utility to tell them to close my account. They will not close my account without sending a technician to my residence to physically turn off the gas meter, even though someone is moving in the same day I am moving out. That person has to call to set up the account and take it over, but they have not yet done so. So basically the new tenant could just not set up the account and I would continue to get charged until I took time off of work to schedule an appointment in a 2 hour window during normal m-f 9-5 work hours to let a gas technician in to turn off the meter.

^ I remember having to call in to take over the previous owner's account. It was covered through our attorneys at closing what the move-in/out dates were so the utility company has to follow and bill by that. There had to be a documented meter reading though, so maybe you can get them to at least read the meter at move-out. Follow-up with official documents of your leave should they ever try to tag you with usage after you're gone.

Amazon Primenow grocery delivery apparently doesn't believe in labeling their packages, I come home to 6 grocery bags on my doorstep. Just a QR code and order number on there, no address or name. I get a lot of mistaken deliveries, I usually just walk them over to the correct adress. I was tempted to just keep it, but I just dropped them on the sidewalk, someone grabbed it.

The "lead in older homes" issue is really frustrating in that we know what to do but it doesn't get done and we all pay for the damage from lead poisoning even if we're not the ones poisoned. Some cities do have lead abatement programs but the scale of the problem is not being matched with resources.
