Mentioned that the kid broke his wrist to get out of scraping my windows. So I did it yesterday and pried out the caulk that needs replacing. 80% chance of rain today.

And...the oven hood vent and light buttons stopped working this AM. We ordered one with mechanical switches because I thought the touch sensors would crap out sooner. Lowes got the wrong one in but sold it to me for the lower price. Trying to find the right breaker, I flipped enough of them that I'll have to reset all of the clocks. when I get home.
The water running in from the missing caulk is probably what is causing the hood to short out. At least it won't catch fire until it dries out a bit.

Someone sent in a donation. But the envelope containing it wasn't sealed. It came open en route, and all we got is the empty envelope. Furthermore, there was no stamp/postage on the envelope, and no return address. Sender unknown. There is a postmark indicating it originated in Dallas on Oct. 12th.

Hoping it was a check and that the PAY TO field is legible, and that someone looks up our contact info and sends it on. Fool's hope?

UPS couldn't find my office. The same office they have been delivering to for the past 12 years. They stuck a "corrected" address label over the shipping label. It was wrong. I had to drive 2 miles to the distribution center.

But you're at work.....

I am. But then I have to go home and fiddle around with that while the housemate taps her foot impatiently.

Spent 40 minutes on the phone with Comcast last night. Replaced the modem. Registered it. Neighbors are fine. Have to buy/swap some co-ax cables around, but if that doesn't help, I'll probably need to have a tech come out, and since the service to the building is fine, it's probably the wiring in the unit that is bad. Which means $$$$.

Sounds familiar.

So you're on the hook for the wiring in your apartment/condo?

First case for the m/b was too crowded so had to disassemble the whole thing and reassemble in a server case. And of course Win7 doesn't have any of the drivers I need for the m/b so I have to do the thumb drive shuffle back and forth to get everything loaded. Thumb drive I'm using a POS. I could probably type the code in faster than waiting for it to copy over. But the new rig likes the SAS card and the drivers for it load so things are looking up.

How does wiring go bad in a wall? I blame the cats.

No idea. Things degrade.

When an ethernet drop at work goes bad, we usually blame mice. There is some wiring outside - could be a squirrel. I suppose it could also be an "oops" by somebody who was, say, stealing cable or something.

Our nanny quit today with 2 days notice.

edit: Now I know why. My wife posted a public ad on a nanny site looking for someone to replace her, and the current nanny saw it, got pissed, and quit. Real smart, my wife is.

Went to pay bills for clients and the regular place's machine was out of order so I did have to make a drive to another location. Drove more miles, burned more gasoline, and put up with stupid drivers for the same pay (get pay per task/gig completed and not per hour).

When I walked out of the place, a curvy girl was in tight hot pants (so tight I was able to see the lines of her pantie) was in front so it was all good.

So, it turns out that the SAS card needs an x8 slot which I don't have on the computer attached to the RAID. I figured that you could use and x8 in an x16 slot but apparently not. Maybe I was ignorant for thinking that, IDK.

So now I have to move the server from the test bench into a case and then into the office from where it is now. Then, assuming I can find drivers for the RAID that work in Server 2008 R2, I'll have to hook it up to the server to do the backups. Except so far I haven't been able to find drivers that work with that OS. So I might be going through all of this for nothing. Sigh.
Go to hardware section and post away.

You can definitely use an x8 card in a x16 slot, unless the mobo manufacturer has been up to the usual tricks

Making fish for dinner and wanted to use garlic powder. So to the menagerie of a cupboard to find the garlic powder. To my amazement it was sitting right there! Calling my name in fact. "Here I am, here I am." With light emanating from the small bottle like manna from heaven.

Thanks. It turns out my problem was that the socket I tried to use was straight PCI and not PCI-e. I don't build rigs often enough to remember some of this sh**.

The problem has been solved though. I had to rebuild the new rig a couple of times before I got everything right but the LSI SAS card is working in a Supermicro X10DAL-i board and I ran a test with the tape drive and everything seems to be working.

You're lucky it still works. I replaced a couple cards/boards for customers that put pci-e cards into standard pci slots. I think they installed them hot, but they both said no. This was many years ago.
