Mine is the same. Initially it was a little loud, but now it sounds like a bunch of marbles. I really should check into the warranty and see if I can get it fixed or get a replacement motor.

Our 20 year old convection toaster oven had a wonky fan too before we stopped using it a year back. It had been like that for a while. My guess is that the lubrication for the bearing was just gone. The blade is probably metal to withstand the temperatures so there's more noise. I had a 5-ish year old Nvidia video card that made a weird noise too.

And it looks like I gotta blow off some insurance brokers over the next while after getting quotes and not going with them.

Give one of them your current quote and see if they can find a carrier that will beat it. Doesn't cost you anything.

Went to pick up all the stuff from my mailbox today and couldn't fit it all into my Scion TC, so will have to go back tomorrow and pick up the rest of it.

I ordered Chinese delivery and they didn't give me any plastic forks or chopsticks. Since my stuff is not here yet, I don't have any silverware. Fortunately I have a measuring teaspoon I brought for coffee.

^I hate all the free utensils they hand out. Usually have my own shit and all that extra stuff gets stashed in a drawer, all of it gets thrown out or "donated" years later.

Same with ketchup...

Oh noes, looks like HMV may be about to go into receivership. What the fuq is the American equivalent of a CD/DVD shop? I've seen Virgin Records in a really shitty movie before.

Spent my high school and university years going to this store more than I should have. I've since donated my DVDs, and bulk-packed my CDs into storage. The store's turned into a hipster or kiddy hangout with toys, t-shirts, and "cool" merch over the past decade... like EB Games. Once Sony & Microsoft use the software licensing model, it's game over for EB/Gamestop -- I think one of them tried in ~2013.

And continuing on the great news theme, GM is laying off 600 people in Ontario. No surprise to anyone who's read/heard about the oversupply of cars in the U.S. requiring production halts and subprime auto loans problem.

Amazon's what replaced the record stores... and book stores... and just about every store now.

What did you people have for a dedicated CD/DVD chain pre-2000s.

Speaking of Amazon, restock your umbrellas! I need one.

Edit: Ya, it's dead. This article just came out -- think the earlier one said there was a court session scheduled for today.

...was put into receivership in Ontario Superior Court Friday and the majority of its head office staff was laid off.

HMV’s stores in nine Canadian provinces will remain open for several weeks in order to liquidate remaining inventory, the company confirmed Friday.

If Americans want some liquidation shit and a 30% discount with the exchange rate, come on up?

my notes say 5yrs ago I opened a $25k 10yr cd at 3.5% interest.

I finally logged into the acct just to see how much $$$ I was minting since banks have only been offering 1% interest lately.
what a disappointment to find out that I only deposited $2.5k. :(

1st world problem: when you find out that you're only minting a little $ instead of a lot of $

We had Sam Goody and Suncoast Video. Also Best Buy and Circuit City had large CD collections. Same for Target. You could also get CDs at Pawn Shops back in the day.

Seriously? I'd never heard about them before you mentioned them. And I consumed a lot of American media in the 90s. Big box stores I don't really count cause that's not where "cool" people buy their records.

I was watching an episode of Hogan's Heroes. The music and sound effects sounded weirdly familiar - I had to close my eyes and tune out the dialog before it hit me - Star Trek.

Weird.

I looked it up, and it turns out the same two composers and some of the sound engineers worked on both series.

The FWP is that it was broadcast TV, so I had to wait for a commercial break to go grab my laptop and start poking around IMDB.

Had gnocchi with homemade tomato sauce, a nice glass of red wine... and grated cheddar cheese, because I was out of parmesan.

Somewhere in Naples, there is a skeleton spinning in its grave.
