I just blew CA$ 35 on a microphone cable and feel guilty. The alternative was a ~CA$ 15 cable bought locally. However, the expensive one was braided, had metal connectors, and good reviews. If all I did was have to plug it in, I wouldn't care, but it's a microphone cable so would be handled a lot.

My neighbor came over this morning and he was telling me about what they're doing to his yard but he isn't trapping them so no help there. Here's a picture of him in the trap.
He looks a little on the small side judging from the blade of grass. Might be a baby. That's about the size of the juvenile groundhogs.

Well, went outside. It was 30 C or 31 C: holy shit it was hot. Didn't help that I was carrying 4 kilos of coke -- you know what, read it anyway you want.

Yes this eastern mole is on the small side but looking at his tail he's an adult. The three I caught earlier just had a stub for a tail so they were pups. This one has been smart enough to smell the scent on my hand so I had to start wearing gloves when I handled the traps and the dirt around them.

Interesting. Thanks. Pretty amazing about the gloves. I mean I've heard stories like that growing up about wild animals but never really heard of a bona fide real life situation where it applied.

Upgrading my laptop from Win 7 to Win 10. Hit three obstacles so far. Each obstacle was correctly identified by the installer so why couldn't the script just fix them instead of kicking out?

Wondering if I should upgrade to the "free" Window 10 from Window 7 on my laptop.

A few more days to go before the free period will be over.

Oh, and it is so freaking hot and humid outside. Temperature is about 100 and the heat index is about 110. It will be a pain to walk 1 block from my office to the parking lot in about 2 hours. Yike.

Use a utility like partition wizard or Macrium backup to do a partition image. Then upgrade and do another image. Then you can decide at your leisure especially if you create a couple virtual machines.

I've run into issues with 3rd party software causing the upgrade to fail on my desktop with the original release. I've cleaned installed several times since then and once the latest Redstone version is released I'll probably do it again at some point. You might try uninstalling the software responsible and try it again. And on a side not I haven't seen any mole activity today in the yard. :)

I'm tired of eating prime steaks and Mexican food. I've been eating it all week while on vacation in Mexico. I want some good sushi and noodles but I know it's crap here and have to wait until I get back home.

Ordered a few more Hi-Def NES kits today... accidentally paid with the wrong bank account.

Stupid PayPal. For several years it wouldn't let me change the default/primary checking account because they were both from the same bank and it seems that you can only pick which BANK is your primary. Suddenly, it starts defaulting to the other for unknown reasons. It doesn't help that I sometimes think that the funding source is going to be on the next page, so I resolve to check it there and I end up submitting. :(

I upgraded my laptop. 2nd generation i5 mobile cpu and Windows 10 runs substantially faster on it than Windows 7 did.

I found one song I like, but the artist doesn't make any other music like that and I can't find any more music like it.

And I really like it

I tried running the update from a thumbdrive and that progressed far enough along to give me error messages which were helpful, as opposed to the "can't upgrade" message I got with the auto updater. I had to increase the size of the system reserve partition and then had to unplug the USB hub. After that, it worked. :)

I shut off all the data mining features I could find. I'll have to read more on this topic to make sure I turn off as many as possible. So far, all my programs run fine.

Barring any problems on the laptop, this Sunday I'll tackle the desktop which is my main computer. I upgraded the video card on the desktop today and that went flawlessly. Doom (the reason for the new card) threw up a hairball because I had set virtual memory very low in order to minimize hits on the SSD. Once I adjusted that, I was able to kill, kill, kill, and see veins in my teeth. So all in all, a productive day.

I'm still running Windows 7... wonder if that'll work against me at future jobs. Never used the newer, tablet friendly interface so I'm going to look stupid.

Might be time to adopt some corgis and chihuahuas. Bassett hounds are fun too.

People who get sent home because it's too hot all bring their car in to get fixed at the same time.

Go the fuck home.

If it's too hot for you to work why in the fuck do you think it's fine for me to work on your hot ass car.

You tell them you want to take it easy cause it's over a hundred degrees and they act like you owe them.

Fuck. You.

If I intended to run Windows, I'd always run the latest if it comes at no cost. Regardless of what you think of the latest iteration, you might as well get used to it, cause that's your future. Now or later, you'll be upgrading at some point.

Or make the sane choice, and upgrade to debian ;^)

I haven't figured out exactly where it's coming from yet. Fortunately it's not too bad up in the bedroom. If it's the people upstairs, I'm kind of screwed because I've got 20 or 22 foot high ceilings.

Paid something like $8 for Frogger on Atari 5200 a week and a half ago. I thought I needed a game for testing, but it turned out that I already owner Pac-Man and I paid $4 for that. I finally put together a long-overdue order from Console5 today and saw that they had Pac-Man complete in box with manual and controller inserts for $4, another with the manual for $2, and Frogger for $0.49. :(

I went ahead and added the 50¢ Frogger to my order even though I already own it. I might make a flash cart or something.

So... that smell I've been bitching about for days. Turns out it may be the neighbor -- living in a semi-detached -- whose shitter or shit pipes are backed up.

I'm kind of confused. For two days in a row, there was a municipal cube van parked in front of the neighbor's house. I think I saw/heard a guy using a vacuum or some hose connected to the van. He put the thing down a vent out front -- sewage vent?

Considering that I can hear conversations through the walls, I guess it's possible the smell bled through the walls. What the hell's the hold-up -- hiyo -- that hasn't been cleared in days though? Neighbor's been having yard done by a contractor, maybe they flushed a rag down the toilet.
