$6 = just right cooking wine

And make sure it says "cooking wine" on it otherwise its not gonna work.

:D

My wife buys the "heinz" cooking wines and I always tell her to just go to the liquor store and get something there so we can drink it while we cook with it.

For the record, our CAD $10 wines are often probably more like US$7-$8 purchased in the US, give or take.

However, there are basically no wines at all below about CAD$6.50 around here. So $10 is about 50% more than the cheapest ones available.

BTW the grocery store cooking wines here are full of salt so effectively useless. I think they do that so bums don't buy it to get drunk off of it. However, the hardcore bums still buy it and get serious electrolyte abnormalities from it, so it's even worse.

Finally decided to look up recipes for making bread -- after buying all the stuff I need. What the hell is this kneading shit? I heard of it, just never bothered to learn what it meant.

Currently looking up no-knead recipes... Lazy.

Wait until Kaido see's this. He'll be in his glory.

Him and I have some PM's going on bread, and this was highly suggested:

http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/11376-no-knead-bread

I just tried it out last Friday. Let it rest for about ~14 hours. It didn't rise as much as it should have. I'm not 100% sure why, but I THINK it had to do with the luke-warm water I used and not 'hot' (80-90F). It was my first run through, so it was expected to not be perfect. The crust was so damn good though - super crispy. Used it for panini's and everyone loved it so I guess it was a win in the end....

I'll have you know that self-copulation has produced brilliant forearm strength...

Saw it. Read it twice. It looks simple, especially the combine ingredients and just let it sit for 12-18 hours part. The part after that is murky. I've seen a recipe suggest just folding it over once or twice and letting it sit before baking; other one suggested folding, wrapping it in a towel, waiting a few hours, then baking. Going to try letting it sit for ~24 hours, folding it once/twice, and then baking first.

I'm also going to try cornbread. So.Much.Easier.

Super simple. The folding part wasn't much of an issue. I took it out after letting it (sort of) rise, floured both sides, folded 4x as in the video and threw it in the dutch oven @ 515F for 30 mins with the lid and then 20 mins without the lid. The fancy creases were there, but it was more flat than rounded - like in the video.

Okay, I actually bothered to watch the video and the part about folding and toweling looks way easier than described on paper.

I had to accept a sale price on an oil filter I wanted to pay full price on. Now I am forced to be happy about getting oil changed tomorrow.

Had trouble getting my snow blower started this morning which delayed me. Luckly there was another 12h guy working today so I was able to afford to be at work late. I just picked up coffee on the way to compensate.

2 words: Fuel stabilizer. I need to use some. Bought some today, I'll buy some ethanol free premium gas next time I'm off, and use that from now on. I need to clean the carb out this summer so hopefully I can manage to make the winter without issues at least. (too freaking cold on hands to do that in winter)

and a few more that I'm forgetting. Not to mention the $1K I'll pay the CPA to plug in my #s for the corporate tax.

Anyone wanting to start a business these days is nuts.

Buy a breadmaker. All you do is stuff all the ingredients into the breakmaker and press a button. 3 hours later you have bread.

Or even better, set it on a timer, so you wake up in the morning to warm fresh bread.

I want to go to the Wal-Mart for groceries but it's -7C outside. It's actually for unnecessary, "fun" baking supplies.

That's actually pretty warm for this time of year though. -18C feels like -23 here, which is closer to December weather than January. January is usually -30's.

To be fair, you essentially live in Siberia... But if you're happy, I'm happy for you:).

Less people, less traffic, less air pollution, somewhat cheaper cost of living, and 5 minute commute makes it worth it. :D

Though if I won lot of money and could move where I want, I'd probably want to go slightly more south but still in a low population place, maybe North Bay area. Probably buy a whole lake and build an off grid cottage, well semi off grid, I'd get fibre internet. :p

North Bay is too close to cottage country. I think property prices are actually pretty high in the area. Had a friend buy a place close to Gravenhurst. Big lot, nice place, but still $400k about 2 years back. For the middle of nowhere, pretty insane price.
