There were so many heroes from that time. Too bad the Chinese government felt the possible loss of power and reacted the way that they did.

Change is always with us, but people resist it so.

Well, That means more than one thing.

If I didn't know where it was or what the story was, I might just think "the bigger gun wins the fight."
However, knowing that that's in China and the man is standing up to the government trying to promote freedom, I would say that instead, the picture means "Fighting and dying for freedom." What good is a life if you can't live free?

Putting your life on the line for what you believe in.

just a branching question from that statement...

is it worth to put your life on the line for what you believe in if it wouldn't do any good?

say there wasn't any camera around or even any other people around in that pic above and they just ran him over. would it have made a difference?

Yes. To him it would, and indirectly so to those that would've killed him it would

well obviously getting squashed by a tank is a big difference than not being squashed, but why waste your life if won't do any good? i'm sure if you lived, you could find better ways to protest and get more people involved. that might help more than committing suicide.

interesting way to look at it actually. I wonder what he would've done if no one was around
From the angle of the photo, I seriously doubt he knew he was being photographed at the time...

but there was a large crowd nearby.
alright fine. he is an attention whore and a drama queen, and his sacrifice was idiotic.

No, he's amazing. You have no idea what a "hero" is, and you probably have no real gauge of what integrity is.

I describe this as "amazing."

My eyes got lost in the sea of responses, sorry meltdown75!

I though you were being serious.

A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
