He needed it to try to get away from Shatner's crappy movie.
It' didn't work.
1989 Worst Movie:
Star Trek V
1989 Worst Actor in a Motion Picture:
William Shatner
1989 Worst Special Effects in a Motion Picture:
Star Trek V
He got a trifecta!!!!
Let's go over some of the pain from this movie:
1) Special effects that looked like they were from the 1960's
2) Urura in her 50's doing a naked fan dance---BLECH!!!!!!
3) Spock's brother having the ability to show scenes from people's lives magically...wtf?
4) The Enterprise is able to get from Earth to the center of the galaxy in a day or two, yet they spent 5 years cruising around the middle part during the TV show and still didn't make it to the center.
5) The whole Scott/Uhura love thingy was just plain creepy.
On the positive side, the comedy portions of the movie were actually pretty funny. There were just too many of them. It seemed like entire scenes were added to just make a joke. Star Trek VI made up for it though.
