From this report it sounds like the stop was for a missing plate. The Lieutenant was later released without charges. These cops are disgusting and they should all be locked up.

the driver wanted problems. i am surprised all he got was pepper spray. this is what happens when you think you don't have to obey police orders. they said "felony stop" on the radio before the officer got out of his patrol car. why didn't he just get out and lay on the ground?

I have had the same thing happen to me except i complied with the police orders toss teh keys on the ground get out and lay belly down on the dirty gas station ground.

It is like a sickness. Something about the job takes people who are slightly inclined toward paranoia and drops them into a pool of it. They become scared of everything, suspicious of everything, and kind of lose connection with reality. It is not as bad as Q, but for a certain percentage of people who become police officers something about the training, the mentality, and the job simply messes with their mind.

People think they are getting off on some sort of power trip, but it is the exact opposite. They are terrified, and have been told if they are going to get shot as a police officer is most likely on an ordinary traffic stop. Every time they pull someone over it stresses them out, and sooner or later they just snap. A whole bunch of them are just terrified of everyone.

yea i know police in real life and they are regular people, they are not all assholes, and guess what many of their co-workers have been shot / stabbed on duty and it IS actually a very dangerous job, especially when people dont comply with orders and escalate the situations.

So to be clear you’re saying that while everything the driver did was 100% within his rights according to Virginia law, AND he had done nothing wrong, he should be glad the police officers only assaulted him with pepper spray?

Just want to be 100% clear on your position because that’s downright psychopathic.

Look, Virginia may have passed a law that expressly says when the police stop you it is legal to delay pulling over until you reach a well lit area but we should all acknowledge that if you actually attempt to do that the police are free to brutalize you to their heart’s content.

you are the driver? just asking because if you arnt then how do you know? im fairly sure you must have paper plate on your vehicles plate holder if you don't have a real plate yet. not displayed in the windows. are you a lawyer? i haven't studied the laws but i know its against the law to refuse to comply with the police orders. in the video you hear the police stating "felony stop" so its not like they just randomly decided to have people exit their vehicle.

46.2-715, Code of Virginia - License plates assigned to a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, tractor truck trailer, or semi-trailer, or to persons licensed as motor vehicle dealers or transporters of unladen vehicles, shall be attached to the front and rear of the vehicle

Irrelevant. He was permitted to travel to a well lit area under Virginia law. He was also legally displaying his plate. So in short the guy was breaking no law, and then when the police tried to pull him over anyway he asserted his rights under the law in a totally reasonable way, but you think he got off easy for only being brutalized by the police with pepper spray. Your position is psychopathic.

The cops should be fired and the city should pay this man for their misconduct.

Nothing about temporary/paper plates from the dealership, or WHERE on the back, nothing about "assigned plate mount ONLY". But you know this already, don'tchya shithead? 🙄

Even if you give the cops credit and assume they missed paper in his back window because of the dark tent, their actions are still not excusable. His argument is absurd and I suspect dishonest.

I agree it's absurd, but I disagree its dishonest. I seriously think that he thinks that his opinion is right. This motorist simply antagonized the police and got less than he deserved.

There's are 10's of millions of people that will agree, it's why we still have policing problems in the US.

Also, according to the article, and which makes total sense, the paper plate in the back window became clearly visible once he entered the gas station.

Yes though, even if he were 100% guilty the actions of these cops merit firing. The officer is totally calm throughout the entire encounter while the police point their guns at him, scream death threats at him, and pepper spray him for no reason.

America desperately, desperately needs new legislation where police are held accountable for their misconduct. The city shouldn’t be paying this guy, the officers themselves should be.

Yes I think people here might underestimate just how many Americans think it’s perfectly appropriate for the police to brutalize people who make them angry.

And most likely if he tried to unlock and open the door from the inside, they would shoot him and claim he was “reaching for something.”

Conflicting orders, from the same cop. Somebody needs to actually be trained.

I don't. I think more Americans than I'd like to think are fascist loving authoritarian loving dbags. I'd say a majority of Trump voters for sure (we already know the majority of them support overthrowing democracy), and then a small minority of Dems as well are down with the police being brownshirts.
