I'll go with probably a less than obvious reply of gun/knife...

Seat belt cutter+window breaker.

I keep one as well. Hope I never have to use it.

The best way to protect yourself is quite boring. Use your head, head butting your attackers!

How reliable is this? The unmarked cop can easily chase you first with naked eye (already screwed) then use radar.

Just don't speed. This isn't being an internet snob- it just saves you guaranteed money and headache than using radar.

It isn't for speeding, it's for momentary lapses of attenon. They will write you a ticket for 5 over here, guaranteed. It's a revenue stream.

And it's very reliable, most of them are too lazy, and just leave the gun on all the time, not instant on.

Pretty sure those window breakers don't actually work; i.e. you need to be the hulk to use one to actually break glass.

they do. Car windows aren't normal "glass", they're designed to crack/shatter gracefully into a million pieces and all it needs to get started is is sufficient pinpoint force. The point of this isn't to break open your window like a sledge hammer, it's to shatter it enough so that you can kick it out in the event of an emergency.

Two snow brushes, in case one breaks and I'm not done taking snow off the car and I'm in the middle of nowhere. Oh and booster cables, always good to have.

Joining the bandwagon of the influx of "what would you do scenario" threads.

me - I always have a spare knife in each of my cars but other than that I don't carry during the week because I can't bring it into work.

I keep a fire extinguisher in case of a car fire and some extra water in case I have radiator problems in the desert.
