790 Math
660 Verbal

The reading comprehension problems were no problem, but I HATED vocabulary. I refused to study vocabulary because it was so horrid. So I ended screwing up a lot of the questions that required vocab.

~1180, took once. Didn't care, I took the ACT's and got a 34 composite or something. SAT's are useless.

[edit]ACT composite scores range from 1 to 36 FYI, and the test is more more difficult/comprehensive than the SAT's[/edit]

i always thought the ACT's were easier than the SAT's.

after all, you scored higher on the ACT's ;)

The ACT is easier to score higher on. Many people that got 1200 range on the SAT at my school came out in the 32 range on ACT. I only took the SAT once got a 1420, I get paid to go to college, so I figure beyond that it is just a pissing contest.

Yep. By about 70 or 80 points from what I can tell from college admissions. Look up the average admitted SAT score at a school like Duke in 1988 and then today.

I know, it was HILARIOUS in '96 when the newspaper was saying "Local area schools have made dramatic improvements in SAT scores"... when it had nothing to do with the students at all.

ok.. heh.. that was hard. I got a 1260 in 1973. for the sake of reference, the national average was 924, average at uc berkley for 1974 admissions was 1131 (1300, in 2002). I couldn't find duke.

It was for me.
I got a National Merit Scholar commendating for scoring in like the 90th percentile on the PSAT.
My SAT score of 1300 was about 90th percentile.

All you guys with scores of 1200 or better need to stop calling yourselves stupid.
The national average is around 1000.
The AT crowd is NOT a good representation of people in general.

And remember that most people who aren't going to college don't even take them.
If everyone was required to take the SAT's in high school, the average would be even lower.

A friend of mine scored around 900-1000 and is now a financial analyst for Nortel making 100k a year

Uhmmm...in order to get National Merit Semifinalist - you must be in the top 99.5%. I did much better on the PSAT then on the real SAT - I made a 1490 "projected score" and then a 75 on the writing - that was enough to qualify me to be a semifinalist..then you fill out some paperwork (90% of those who do get it) and become a finalist..I'm not sure if I was a scholar or not (I didnt get a scholarship from the National Merit corp, but rather from my university)..On the SAT I scored 1380 the first time, 1320 the second time..oh well, the PSAT got me a free ride and then some :)

my daughter too.. she was a scholar, she gets a bit from national merit, and what she would get from the university is reduced by that bit, so.. the total is the same either way.. but she didn't do as well as you.. 135 + 79.. you must be in a larger or smarter state! but her SAT did turn out to be about what the psat predicted.. 1330 first go, 1390 second. ACT was her best test, but PSAT had a much better payoff.

I got 1280, I think, but I only took it once in my 1st semester of my Senior year. I probably would've gotten 1300+ if I'd taken it again. One of my friends got a perfect 1600 and he was a Junior... lucky bastard.

Your state's cutoff for semifinalist was 214? that's ridiculously low....

WOw, i feel dumb. I only scored a 910. Well this thread told me I was disadvantaged, so......................The fact that I didnt go to high school, i went to school high might have something to do with it though.

I didn't say semifinalist. I said commendation. Just means you were almost a semifinalist.
But looking back at the percentiles for scores in 1988 when I took them, I was incorrect.

I actually scored around 96th percentile in both the PSAT and the SAT

I took em in the 8th grade, got 800 math, reading 760....I never took the test again. I joined the Army like a dumba$$ and turned down a full ride at Juliard. Now I'm a Network manager for SBC...not so smart. I think the test was rigged!

I'll finish my masters this term(finally). I didn't have to take the stupid test since I went back to school as an adult. I just had to take a few placement tests, which were pretty easy.

lower than that, actually.. 206-208ish, usually. one of the advantages of living in a small stupid state, I guess.. although I don't think there's a state quota beyond the first round..

PSAT was pretty accurate for me, i got the same exact score. (math went up 10, verbal down 10)
what do you all think about the 'new' SAT format? With the writing section and 2400 point score, and no more analogies etc.

i took it one time and studied for about 2 hours the night before. practically nothing.

1390. 700 math, 690 verbal.

www.highiqsociety.com has some IQ tests. I got 136 i believe. What is scary is that when you finish they say what the avg SAT scores of people with different IQ's are. Somone with an IQ of 138 on avg gets a 1400 on the SAT.

Taken the ACT three times, 29 in 9th grade, 34s in 10th and 11th, each time acing a diff section. Got a 232 on my PSAT and am currently working on my National Merit Finalist application -- unfortunately, they want me to "verify the PSAT score" by wasting a saturday on an SAT.

x^2.

where x=your score.

760m800v first time, 800m760v second time.
so technically i scored 1560, but to all the colleges it was a 1600 :)

sat score, unfortunately, doesn't do college coursework for you.
