I wanted to add, since now I have talked with some people....

Braindump and the web are the key to success on this and almost any other test now-a-days.

Back in 1988, there wasn't even a web...but we would talk about such things...there just wasn't an easy media like today.

Today's educated student has alot of tools at his disposal. Braindumps are not cheating really for the good student. You are going to know your stuff since you perfected it the last 5, 10, 18 years....it's just a guaranteed (more or less) outcome for some stupid line in the sand educators draw.

And for every truly smart candidate there is probably some family somewhere throwing up to and over $100k to get junior a perfect 1600 to be an alumni at Yale like Snookums.

Sadly, a 1600 won't even magically get you into Harvard or MIT,etc. Our Valedictorian has a 1600, not to mention flawless grades, etc, and was denied from Harvard, deferred from MIT. Our school is ranked ~50th in the nation.

That's borderline unbeliveable (I can see a 1600 getting shot down, but also Valedictorian of a 50th in nation school....), but I can imagine how many 'alumni' enter each year, as well as 'ACE students'. Were they just a bookworm? did they do anything other than school? that makes a big difference.

You have so many 'kids' with perfect scores but nothing else showing for them...they got the 4.5 max or even 5.0 their school offered, 1600 SAT/36 ACT....dean's list, honor roll, name printed in the Who's Who...but nothing else, no Job, no car, no life.

Schools look at that as nothing. Those types usually have 1 or 2 great undergrad years and then get lost in the whole real world with school, and external requirements...even up to attempting suicide.

I agree, It is almost unbelievable, but its true.

I believe surveys like this on the internet are somewhat flawed. Kind of weird how all the guys with 1600 SAT scores and 10" members wind up spending all their time on the internet. That being said I got a 1600.

P.S. LOL at the guy who got a "1592"

like i said before, with a 120,000 users, and only what 100 posting their scores in this thread, its certainly believable. clearly the people that didnt do well dont post in the thread, or care, or whatever. its not that everyone on the board did well. just a question like this is tilted more towards people who did well participating.
but yea, i know what you mean, not necessarily believable all the time though.

May 2000:
Verbal 560
Math 610
Studied my butt off, also took Kaplan course. Woke up late the day of the test.

November 2000:
Verbal 590
Math 660
Didn't study for a single minute. Smoked (not cigarettes) up until the day before. Didn't care, cuz I was heading to a SUNY anyway, and I actually did better.

Conclusion: SAT's mean jack.

32 on the ACT (36ed two of the parts!), but I was sick as a dog. Couldn't afford an "elite" school, so I didn't bother trying again for 33+.

It's actually pretty hard to fund college when you are a white male from the burbs with well-to-do parents who won't pay for squat or cosign for a loan.

SAT's really are BS, because I'm not very intelligent and I still placed decently.

700 math, 500 english = 1200. Took it when I was 14, never bothered taking it again since I got into the college I wanted . SAT scores ae BS. Half the guys that dropped out scored higher then me.

Anyone know what the maximum ACT score was in 1989/1990? It was less than the current max of 36, but was it 33 or 34? I just spent 15 minutes searching Google for the answer, but was unsuccessful.

I believe my score was two points less than the max, and I was told that if I'd answered one more question correctly I could likely have had free tuition almost anywhere. That was perhaps a slight exaggeration, but I was disappointed at the time. No longer, though... I'm happy with the last 13 years.

Update: I should have finished reading the first page of the thread, where I'd have seen Alkemyst's post stating that the maximum was 35. I believe I scored a 33. My best section was English, and the worst was Math. Somewhat humorous, since I'd decided on a Computer Science major with a Math minor :). I shouldn't have tried to finish the math section so quickly...
