On Friday I'll post a little bit of information on the DRM found on the PC version (yes, it has DRM), and some random information on what I found on the PC disc and what the PC's readme file tells you that you need to know before buying that version. It's rather crummy that Atari is forcing the DRM on us PC gamers, while also giving us the stripped down version - no online multiplayer co-op (or any online activities at all!) and no downloadable content for the PC version - while PS3 and Xbox gets it all! Apparently Atari forgets that PC gaming INVENTED those features!

No online support for pc version according to these ecto-web dudes.

WTF were they thinking?

Ahh well, if it sounds too good to be true...

well if the PC version really is only $30 and the co-op really is nerfed then I'm not sure I care too much. I probably care about the PC being overly infested with DRM more than lack of co-op...

That being said, if the Wii version actually has full campaign co-op, then maybe it is the best version considering its $40, but then I seriously doubt it has anything near the neat destructible environments of the PC/PS3/360 versions

Well that's just craptacular. On the one hand, $30. On the other, DRM and no DLC.

Xbox 360 can have DLC and no DRM - but $60.

What's with the return of Ghostbusters, is a movie remake in the works?

The PC game looks pretty astonishing from what little I've seen. It looks like a good entertainment value for the cost so what's the big deal if its just SP?

This is the only video of the game running on the pc that I've seen.

Wow, I never expected that game to be that good looking, I thought when it was announced that they (the developers) wouldn't really take it seriously and just make "yet another failed movie-based game". That one however does look good, I'm excited for sure.

Am I seeing the same video as everyone else? This game looks terrible.

But from what I've read, the co-op modes aren't actually 2-4 people playing through the campaign, but just added "missions" kind of like in Splinter Cell. So maybe it's not much of a loss and Ghostbusters is just fail to begin with.

Depends on the game engine they used. If it was custom then chanced of people adding support are slim.

Edit:

Looks like the game uses the infernal engine.
http://www.infernalengine.com/

Adding support for anything not there is going to be next to impossible since this is a new engine with very little known about its sdk .

Looks like everything for the engine is designed with consoles in mind and the games list is almost all consoles. Probably doesn't have much pc network support so they just left it out instead of creating one.

Odd it says that dual core pentiums are not supported. First time I saw that on a game.

The DRM will probably be solidshield like the last couple Atari games.

online activation for a no online features game. Brilliant atari !

I heard the PC version has better detail/physics then the ps3/360 version if you have sli or crossfire.

I heard the pc version has better physics and gfx details for sli/crossfire rigs then the 360/ps3 version. Might have been a game few play online so no mp is no great loss, I would rather pay $30 less and not have mp.

That looks awesome.

That's not using PhysX is it?

Sorry, I can't hear him talking while I watch, @work, so if he's mentioning it, I wouldn't know.

Update: Hooked up the headphones, that is impressive as hell, especially when he's showing the multiple cores being pushed with the physics stuff, this version makes the console footage I've seen look kind of shoddy by comparison.

The funny part is the video says its running on a c2d, but then task manager shows 4 cores lol

Since this is pretty much GhostBusters 3.....Shouldn't the single player experience be the most important?

graphically, it looks okay, but i'm not sure how interesting ten hours of shooting your electric spooge gun at ghosts is going to be...

I think the point is they've been talking about the multiplayer component all through development, so now pulling it from the PC version at the last minute and not making that obviously apparent to PC gamers is disingenuous on their part.

Plus, again, PC gaming is where multiplayer flourishes, a lot of people I know will pirate games based solely on whether or not there's a multiplayer component. If there's MP locked down with a key, they'll buy it just to avoid the hassle of having to find cracked servers or whatever.

I'll probably buy this on the PS3 at some point, but I'll buy it used. Atari can bite me.

Ahh.. I failed to realize that the PC version is being published by Atari. If the DRM used is the online activation / install limit BS, i'm changing my mind about picking it up. And no MP.. Sounds like another crappy console port, great.

I just paid for it and it should be done downloading in something like 5 hours.

I don't know why everyone is so mad about the online play being left out of the PC version. Paying $30 for a single player game seems perfectly reasonable.

I'm boycotting Atari, will only get this if it gets rave reviews and DRM is not a bitch to deal with.

You can bypass most of the DRM problems if you get the Steam version. I've had some major problems trying to install boxed copies of games like Oblivion, but I've never had a problem with Steam trying to install a game.

Any chance MP gets patched in later? Oh wait, I forgot, this is Atari we're talking about. Nevermind.

Downloading on Steam now. I couldn't resist. It looks like it will at least be entertaining. Should be worth $29. I'm not really looking for 'game of the year' right now anyways. Just something to do when I'm bored.

Alright I gave it a shot and it's actually pretty good. The only thing that's a bit of a concern is that the controls are a bit weird. It feels like the sensitivity just randomly changes every now and then. Sometimes I'll rotate slow, sometimes it's really fast. The other weird thing is that the X and Y axis do not have the same rotation speed. I have the Y axis sensitivity turned to maximum and X turned to about 50% and that seems like a pretty good setting in terms of making them equal.

So far I would say it's worth the $30. It's probably a lot better with an Xbox controller, but it's not a requirement or anything.

Oh no... Did they leave in some kind of console controller code that keyboard/mouse input is run through, like in Dead Space? That would drive me insane!

I'm not a big fan of steam but maybe I'll get it this way.
