I've been looking forward to this game for awhile, getting more and more excited everytime I hear about someone play testing it or watching a trailer or video for it. 4 player online coop looks like it's going to be pretty awesome, and the PC version comes in at half the price of the 360/PS3 versions, which makes it pretty attractive.

Written by Akroyd and Ramis, all the big names from the movies are there for the voices, this could be the Ghostbusters game we've always wanted.

So who's getting slimed next week?

UPDATE: Turns out according to this site, the PC version IS stripped down, no online support at all, and all DRM'd up to boot.

Guess if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Explains the $30 price point I guess. I would have happily paid $50 to get what the consoles got at least.

Be sure to email Terminal Reality to make your voice heard if you want online for the PC version of the game!

Based on the IGN review, this game delivers. It is basically the 3rd movie, and about the biggest complaint was that some of the cutscenes are done with the game engine.

Will it be available on Steam? I might be too lazy to actually go out and get it in the stores :p.

EDIT:

It's not on Steam's website, so I assume it will not be.

Not that I can tell, at least not right away.

Atari is on Steam though, so I would assume it'll happen at some point.

Any idea if there's something stripped down about the PC version? Trying to figure out why its half price? Not that I'd complain.

Well the PS2 versions seems to be only $20, and the Wii version is $40, while the PS3 and 360 ones are the regular $60.
Looks like they might just be trying a new pricing model maybe?
PC version uses the same engine as the 360 and PS3 versions, so I doubt it will be a cut down version.

Ah ok. I was worried they were using the Wii/PS2 engine for the PC port. If that's not the case, then the PC version definitely sounds like a good buy!

i'm generally leery of any game that is a) cheap and b) released on last-gen consoles.

this is definately a 'wait and see' for me.

Terminal Reality had a completely separate team working on the Wii/PS2 versions of the game, which are pretty much identical other than the Wii controls.

If you look at the 360/PS3/PC version as opposed to the PS2/Wii version, the art style and engine are completely different, so I wouldn't read too much into those releases.

For what it's worth Dan Akroyd has played the game and he far prefers the Wii version graphically. Said the art direction and feel of the game is just much better.

As mentioned, there are 2 versions of the game, so you shouldn't feel too worried.

Wii version does look awesome, but I don't think it has online coop, which I think is going to be a pretty significant pull for this game. At least for core gamers.

This is the only video of the game running on the pc that I've seen.

That looks awesome.

That's not using PhysX is it?

Sorry, I can't hear him talking while I watch, @work, so if he's mentioning it, I wouldn't know.

Update: Hooked up the headphones, that is impressive as hell, especially when he's showing the multiple cores being pushed with the physics stuff, this version makes the console footage I've seen look kind of shoddy by comparison.

It looks brilliant and hopefully it sets a new precedent in the relationship between movies and video games. Having the entire original cast do the voice work and writing is awesome, embracing video game format as a complete stand in for a 3rd movie instead of some sort of bastardized afterthought, or worse - a game that they try to overly interconnect with the movie so that you have to play the game to fully appreciate the movie and ultimately just perverts things even more.

One thing I don't care for is that the online coop doesn't include the option to play through the entire game in coop, there's only some "non-storyline" related multiplayer stuff. Wii version allows for local 2-player coop through the main campaign, which is cool, but it would have been nice to have that option in the PC/PS3/360 versions as well.

I'm glad they got the whole publisher ordeal sorted out and are finally releasing it. :)

Wow, I never expected that game to be that good looking, I thought when it was announced that they (the developers) wouldn't really take it seriously and just make "yet another failed movie-based game". That one however does look good, I'm excited for sure.

Doesn't use PhysX, it's a Havok game and they were using it to pimp the i7's physics abilities.

Video listed is on a Core2Quad, they do have another video of them using an i7 proc tho.

That video makes me want to upgrade to an i7 sooner, heh.

So it looks like the pc version has no online or DLC support.

On Friday I'll post a little bit of information on the DRM found on the PC version (yes, it has DRM), and some random information on what I found on the PC disc and what the PC's readme file tells you that you need to know before buying that version. It's rather crummy that Atari is forcing the DRM on us PC gamers, while also giving us the stripped down version - no online multiplayer co-op (or any online activities at all!) and no downloadable content for the PC version - while PS3 and Xbox gets it all! Apparently Atari forgets that PC gaming INVENTED those features!

No online support for pc version according to these ecto-web dudes.

lol wow, I wonder if the netcode is still there though, maybe a community patch will later enable online play? Either way though, that's pretty shitty. But from what I've read, the co-op modes aren't actually 2-4 people playing through the campaign, but just added "missions" kind of like in Splinter Cell. So maybe it's not much of a loss and Ghostbusters is just fail to begin with.
