What Countries are good for Americans to Emigrate to?

It is evident that those that used to be middle class but have been successfully knocked down by the Republican plan to eliminate the middle class have to leave the U.S.

What Countries are good for Americans to Emigrate to?

That an American can get a job

That an American can change citizenship to

etc

Canada, Australia or NZ would be your best bet I'd say.

Getting citizenship here isn't going to be easy though. Way too many people trying to get in. I say the other two would have similar issues though.

What are ya skills?

An American can change citizenship to almost anywhere I assume. Trying to keep dual citizenship, that's trickier, but I know people who do it.

Good to emigrate to? Lot of variable. Some people find Mexico just fine, at least they did before the drug cartel explosion.

Canada is an obvious choice, except the cold. Then you get to the Caribbean, Europe, any place that speaks a language you can or learn to speak perhaps.

Pretty tough standards, huh? You have to commit some serious crimes nowadays to be considered?🙂

with your skill-set and resume, I'm surprised you don't have prime ministers calling you daily to recruit you 😉

I've heard that Americans are not allowed to get a job in Mexico, can anyone clarify that?

Also I thought Canada frowns on allowing Americans to become a Canadian citizen?

What makes you think I don't?
Because you can't keep a job would be my guess.

Anyway, as mentioned Canada is top choice, culture and economy most like US, though that also introduces risk in that it could end up going down the US' path for the person looking to get away from it.

Less "thinking", more reading. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-eligibility.asp

Pretty unlikely we will head down the same path for varying reasons both politically (current system) and economically.

Hopefully, since at this time Canada is doing better. Maybe the US can go down its path instead, right!

We made some huge blunders which came to a head in the early-mid 90's but some aggressive steps put us in the situation that allowed us to weather the financial meltdown fairly well. That and our politics are boring. Probably why we are all here taking in the show down south.

I thought you wanted to move to Somalia.

I've offered to send him on a one way trip there, so far he isn't taking me up on it. All he does instead is hope the U.S. becomes such a place

Anywhere English-speaking, basically. However, even amongst English-speaking countries, the list of places that accept Americans with open arms are dwindling. So, how about the moon? Americans have been accepted by the locals there unanimously since 1969. 😛

I imagine that many Americans would have problems taking citizenship in those countries because you have to swear allegiance to a Queen.

I would recommend going to countries like China, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Turkey, etc. Those are the countries of the future. I imagine that many of them might have archaic citizenship rules though.

Dave, please, please...please tell me you started this thread because you are seriously thinking of leaving...

Probably the truest thing ever said.

He want's to go to a good country, so those are out.

Second, you dont have to swear allegiance to the queen to get citizenship. Is it possible for you to post in a thread without you doing your ignorant ranting thing?

Yet another reason we should be a little more cautious about our American immigration is that most other countries are themselves very close-minded and bureaucratic about immigrants and nationalization. As with international trade, we fuck ourselves every chance we get. It's time for some reciprocity.

In any case, I think central and south America makes sense for retired Americans. Maybe the elderly who need employment can teach English or work in hospitality over there? But it would be tough. The idea wouldn't be to naturalize but to hope that they are happy to have dollars infused in their economy by prolonged tourists.

Those are the future or even present good countries. It seems rather pointless to go to a country like NZ only to have to immigrate once more.

It seems that out of those 3, Australia no longer requires pledging allegiance to the Queen.

New Zealand

"I [name] swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of New Zealand, Her heirs and successors according to law, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of New Zealand and fulfil my duties as a New Zealand citizen. So help me God."

Canada

I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfill my duties as a Canadian citizen.
