Why use codecs at all?
Just install VLC and/or PotPlayer.
I've yet to see these two failing to open a video file, no matter what strange format/codec it had...
yeah sure use VLC it plays anything you throw at it with no codecs. Only, it's for n00bs who know nothing about quality.I ditto completely. VLC is in a class by itself and would be even without the Santa hat at Xmas.
It renders codecs moot.

If you compare the quality of LAV Decoder with the madVR Renderer it will crap all over VLC, now add SVP to that, and you will feel the movie like REAL life not a movie! you'd wanna re-watch all your movies again.
Ever since I discovered SVP I stopped going to the cinema, because watching movies on my big TV connected to my laptop via HDMI and running SVP is like being there in the scene
that's the problem, most people just want a headache free easy to install VLC, let me install MPC-BE + LAV +madVR + SVP and you will blown awayNever heard of that, I will delve. Cept I play movies on stand alone player on the TV, not via my PCs.

if you need help, I can assist you via TeamViewer, otherwise google the stuff but to get it working right is the difficult part, once I show you how, it will take you no longer than 120 seconds to install and configure everything
well the Audio is better at the theater yes obviously, but the smooth FPS @ 60 FPS, the crystal clear quality of a 1080 p movie with madVR, makes it all so much better, the movies don't even compare, if you look close in the movie theater you can see the little color dots or pixels or whatever you wanna call emWatching 1080p on your tv is better than the digital 4K at the theater? Or are you rocking 4K at your house with a sound system that's THX certified (or something close to that)?
The way you describe it, I have a hard time believing. You either really do care about quality and are terrible at quantifying, or you think you care about quality but really don't as your discernment threshold was surpassed a long time ago.

The first time I tested SVP, it was on The Fast & THe Furious and oh my god was I blown away! I felt like the car motion and races were real! I had to re-watch most my movies again! Until you experience it, no words I say can make believe :whiste:We are each unique. I submit, I can harvest the in depth reality of a given movie without focusing on, obsessing over the arcane tech elements.

very well said. VLC is the worst player in terms of quality IMHO. The sad thing is people who don't wanna bother with fiddling with settings just install it and forget about codecs. True it is more convenient to not need codecs and what not, but they don't know what they're missingI use K-Lite Mega, and have been using the same for past three/four years. My favourite player is MPC. I have tried a few, BS, Gom or something, VLC, and no disrespect to anyone but found VLC the worst of them all, regardless of it's variety of codec support!
So, I found the following tutorials on how to install "MPC-HC + LAV Filters + xy-VSFilter + madVR"
http://azurehakua.wordpress.com/2012/02/23/mpc-hc-lav-filters-xy-vsfilter-madvr/
I also found this, which seems to be a slightly different configuration:

Anything else?
In my experience, installing codec packs and futzing with system settings leads to instability most of the times. However, I am willing to try installing these alleged "superior" packages on a test machine, and make a direct comparison between the VLC and the MPC+filters solutions.
If a director shoots a film at 24 fps, I wouldn't consider watching it at 60 fps to be improving the situation.
I can't comment on actual picture quality.
But this just sounds like more and more like pc game mods where a fan decides they know better than the developer how a game should have looked or played. I avoid those like the plague.
If I had an HTPC I'd look into it.
Yeah bro, what gave me up?PS: are you from India man?
Instability by installing codec pack? I don't think you have experienced it, but heard it from VLC users onlyIn my experience, installing codec packs and futzing with system settings leads to instability most of the times.
