Is this thread about the technical difference between the iPhone and Samsung phones, why people buy iPhones or, perhaps, something else?

Let me check the OP.

Yep, something else.

Well, since the OP was comparing Apple and Samsung I just threw in my $.02 on the matter. For the record, I did sell my ipad and iphone in 2011, instead opting for a SGS2 and a Windows 7 laptop as my preferred tech devices. I patiently waited for iOS5 to drop before making my decision on what to do. So, whatever reasons people have for buying apple products, I have been there done that but would still consider Apple stuff in the future.

Im no fan boy. Id definitely consider an iPhone if it gets a redesign to 4in - 4.3in and has a nice setup. The nexus's 4.65in is a bit big but Android 4.0 is awesome. If iphone allows some basic customization itd be awesome.

LOL, that NFL video was like where I work, everyone has an iPhone 🙂

I think the iP4/4S is still pretty sexy, and the 5 will be a magnitude better. People will rant about some minor crap, and it'll sell like flipping crazy.

I just want the LTE chipset to be more efficient.

2011 was Samsung's year, and I guess Jobs' death overshadowed things for them (in addition to the 4S just being a minor update).

Apple needs to release a major new iPhone, to take some shine off of Samsung. And no measly upgrade, but a lock, stock and barrel movement up.

Huh? I don't get it. Apple sold more smartphones than Samsung, made more money, holds the top 3 selling smartphones, and unseated Samsung as the largest smartphone manufacturer.

I'm confused.

You obviously are not paying attention to the Samsung commercials.

Apple needs to bump the screen to 4 inches and add LTE and they will pretty much own 2012.

If Apple releases an iPhone 5 in 2012, they'll own the year. It won't take a bigger screen or LTE, just a phone release. Hell, even if they don't release a phone this year come December 2012 the top 3 handsets sold will still belong to them.

I'm with everyone else wondering how when Apple just posted numbers that dwarf Samsungs in every way is it not Apple's year?

That's like saying 2011/2012 was the Patriots year and the Giants need to somehow reclaim the sexiness.

Breaking news! 2012 will be Apple's year too.
Probably 2013 too.

Didn't Apply just have a record breaking profit in 4th Quarter 2011 and over 50% total handsets sold with sprint and Verizon in 2011. What am I missing that make 2011 Samsung's year.

I know this might shock some people but their is life outside of the US. Apple's performance in the US over the last few months of the year wasn't repeat in many countries.

Having said that I don't think that Apple need to worry about getting anything back. They might be well on their way to becoming the most disliked company in the tech world but I doubt they care much when they are rolling around in their $100bn cash in hand.

When half of a cell phone provider like Verizon handset sells are coming from 2 handsets from 1 company. I don't really see how that company can even be considered a hated company. Anything uber popular will get hated on by a bunch of people, because well it's cool to hate on popular shit. If sell figures are any indicator, they are in fact one of the most liked tech companies in the world.

Apple could release polished turd after polished turd and people would queue up around the block for it... every time.

You keep telling yourself that while their devices changes the industry repeatedly.

Legitimate polished turds from Apple would be devices like their magic mouse or Apple TV, but their iPhone and iPad is pretty top notch.

I didn't say any of their popular items are polished turds, I just said they could release a polished turd version of any of their popular items and people would queue up to buy it, and would rationalize away its turd-ishness.

5 year old argument, and so wrong now...

I didn't say any of their popular items are polished turds, I just said they could release a polished turd version of any of their popular items and people would queue up to buy it, and would rationalize away its turd-ishness.

...and you didn't say their popular items aren't turds either. All you did was make a generalization so I stated a specific point that invalidates your generalizations.

Also where did Pilablemoose refer to popular items in his "5 year old" statement?

Actually, I did. I said "Apple could release a polished turd ...", which implies.. especially in a thread about what Apple should/can do next.. that they haven't yet released a popular turd and explicitly says what they could do in the future.

Also where did Pilablemoose refer to popular items in his "5 year old" statement?

He didn't, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't see the comment.

Uh...an iPhone 5 is unreleased...but an iPhone isn't popular?

lol ok, so what is said or isn't said only applies to other people but not you. Gotcha.

Who's specifically talking about the iPhone 5? Not me.

This is what I've been saying:

Apple could release a turd version of their popular products and people would queue up for it and rationalize away the turd-ishness because it has the Apple logo on it.

Nothing about the iPhone 5 specifically and nothing about what they are currently selling.

No, he was being as dismissive as you were, so I repeated my reply.
