While I had a great time in Oktoberfest, that beer isn't that good. Nor is any beer imo.

Found something I like, so bought a few bottles. I like my liquor neat, perhaps a few cubes of ice. No mixer bullshit. Lots of football, now some gaming.

I picked up a bottle of this on sale the other day for $35. It's bottled at barrel strength of 118 proof. You'd never know it. A dash of water and this stuff is incredibly smooth. Probably going back and getting a second bottle to warm my belly for the winter months. 😛

Hendricks gin and half a lime. I wanted to finish the gin to free up space in the freezer. G&T season is now officially concluded.

Just finished a Sam Adams Honey Rye Pale Ale. It's alright. I'm kind of tired of hoppy beers. I don't want to say I don't like hoppy beers, but maybe I don't; dunno... It seems like hoppy is the default profile for craft(ish) beers anymore. Just tired of it I guess. I really enjoyed the black lager from the autumn sampler. I'd like to get some more of that.

I disliked IPAs for the longest time, then somehow I got roped into the the spicy bitterness. Now, I think my palate has been wrecked by them, I expect more hops than I get when trying other styles, even old favorites. My bro-in-law- claims your tastes change every so many years; I'm ready to be done with hoppiness myself. It could be that I should take a sabbatical from beer altogether, then start again with less hoppy styles.

Stouts and porters will replace the hops with the subtlety of malt.

Those are my favorite styles. Guinness was the first beer I really enjoyed. Previously, I just drank beer to fit in at parties, and after, I wouldn't even consider US adjunct beer. My tastes have expanded over time, and I can even enjoy a cheap macro beer as long as it has /some/ flavor, but I still consider Guinness my true love, even if there's others in the style that are technically better.

The one exception to that was draught Murpheys I was getting at the pub for a brief period of time. I don't know if it was a rogue batch, they changed, or what, but it had a very unique flavor of burnt currants. Almost like they went overboard on the malt roasting. After a year or so, it quit tasting like that. Still good, but no different than draught Guinness. I would literally pay $100 for another glass of the old product.
