Okay, that was kinda yuck. Cold it tasted sweet and more like an Ale. Warm brought out the bitters, but otherwise is was pretty 'flat' tasting. Lucky I only bought a 4 pack.

Only 5% alcohol in a stout makes me think they must have gone a bit light on the malt and sounds like they went with some mild hops too.

Light bodied dark beer can be good but for me at least it needs to be crisp and VERY bitter or I won't enjoy it much.

Yeah, I'm going to look for a heavier bitter stout next. I'd pawn these off on my nephew, but he doesn't like dark beer. Experimenting has it's downsides.

Isn't it just the grain amount that determines the abv? Imperial stouts are definitely more popular nowadays, I guess in general higher abv seems more popular. Makes me appreciate lighter abv beers that actually have flavor quite a bit.

edit: nvm malt and grains are the same thing, dunno why I was thinking they were different.

Good to know. Been wanting to try a good bourbon (that doesn’t cost $600/750ml).

From what I’ve read the profile varies a great deal depending on the batch/blend. This #25 tho touches that special place for me. First hit is obviously the high alcohol content but the flavor develops beautifully into rich carmel and vanilla with that roundness that good wheated bourbons have. I consider the $85 I spent to be a very fair price.

Alternatively, I have Brazilian rum AKA Cachaça - their signature drink caipirinha is fucking amazing.

Wow is this stuff good! Seen it but never tried until now. :)

Also it's nice to see an import not be a blatant rip-off trying to duck US deposit laws by making their beer 11.2 oz per bottle!
