I also bought a couple new Wii games and am getting that balance pad for the Wii when it comes out. We're also going to Hawaii in July to visit some friends.

I have cut back slightly on beer, but that's only to become less fat for the above mentioned Hawaii trip.

:D

Its nice that most of those things are enviro friendly too, but the pocket book is el numero uno.

I can't possibly imagine a healthy meal for under 2 dollars please educate me.

I've stopped smoking weed (which I've come to realize is a very expensive habit).

I don't give a flying fu@k about the gas, but the weed comment strikes me dead in the . :)

Oh ya, I'm smoking generic non-filter cigs. "Skydancer" non-filter = 13.00 carton vs. "Camel" non-filter = 50.00 carton.

Here's a good one, when you pump gas, turn the pump off and lift the hose and squeeze the trigger to get all the gas out that you paid for.
I rarely buy from the vending machine and try to make a brown bag lunch except on Fridays when we go out.
Make sure your tires are properly inflated to get the best gas mileage possible.
Use fuel injector cleaner to make your car run like it's supposed to.

I seriously don't understand why people are hurting. I've only noticed a difference in gas prices, and it's nothing I would even come close to complaining/worrying about. Do most people not know how to manage money at all? if you know how to manage money, you shouldn't have to make any adjustments of any significance yet.

EDIT:READ AS:::Don't live paycheck to paycheck and you will have no problems.

You must not buy groceries.

Food prices are the highest they've been relative to average income in 50 some years.

http://www.inflationdata.com/i...les/Wages_and_Food.asp

As I said, I buy food once a week and haven't spent over $60/week in 2-3 years. I don't buy cheap shit, I just don't buy more than I need.

You must rarely eat at home. My bare minimum is 160 a week now for just me and has nearly doubled from 6 years ago. Granted, I'm a body builder so it's a lot of fresh meat, but still.

There is no denying food prices have shot up.

Holy crap, I don't spend that much in a month on food.

do you not like to eat food?

I spend about $80 a month on food myself, and that does include a few packages of ribeyes, snacks, beer, soda, all of that stuff.

I add elk, deer, wild fish, and wild birds to that when I can, but still. $160 a week is crazy.

I decided two mortgage payments are better than one, so I bought a second house. I'll be moving into it on Memorial Day Weekend and fixing up the old one for a few months before putting it on the market.

To better afford this, I've been living on a strict budget, not visiting the in-laws as much (350-mile round trip), trying to adopt some of the hypermiling techniques, and staying off of the deals forums (the hardest part of all of this).

Well, I'll give it a shot:

My usual packed lunch + snacks:

Sandwich (turkey on rye, pbj, ham and swiss, it varies)
Apple
Small bag of chips or crackers ($7.88 for a box of 50 at Costco)
Granola bar
2 Oreos

I'll eat the apple in the morning, the granola bar in the afternoon, and eat the other 3 for lunch. Ice water to drink.

Easily under 2$

That's what I do, except the granola bar and oreos, replaced with a banana.

Fresh produce, lean meats, poultry, eggs, fish all these things have to be transported to the store and it takes gasoline to do that. The increasing gas costs are being passed on directly to consumers.

We could always transport them by rickshaw. Then the price of gas wouldn't matter!

Serious edit: This is why I try to buy as many food products that are grown in the pacific northwest. The less time they spend in transit, the less the price will fluctuate (also the less of a carbon footprint I create).

Refinanced the house, traded the gas guzzler in for a Honda, mixed table scraps into the dog's food :)
