Red, white, and BOOM baby!!!!

Illinois largest fireworks display and ranks in the top 2% in the NATION!!!

Also probably just hang out around the house lighting off little fireworks, drinking some beers, and grilling some food. Then head down to red, white, and BOOM!!! to top off the evening with family and friends.

Just spent $80 on fireworks.

I guess that's nothing. But it's a lot for your casual dudes.

These days I usually take the vacation day and add it to an international trip. So spending it in Norway and probably forgetting it's the 4th.

But we've also done the big 4th of July events in DC, Boston, and NYC in the past

If I'm not mistaken an "Indian" summer was a "false" summer. Gee I wonder how the white man came up with that little gem?

But it's PERFECTLY FINE to still say it now that you are aware and it doesn't make you racist. After all Columbus THOUGHT he was in India right?!? RIGHT?!? So that makes it A-okay! /s

I vote we start calling it a WHITE PEOPLE summer instead .... FAR more accurate!
Man, there is literally no sub-forum safe from P&N anymore .

May go see family and barbecue or may ride my bike in the city with a buddy.

Either way I'll be home before dark so I can give my dog a trazodone, a little bacon CBD, wrap him in his thunder shirt, and keep him company on his least favorite and most anxious night of the year. No matter what I do that dog is not going to be left home alone on July 4th

No one really knows the origins of the term but it doesn't refer to a "false" summer. If anything it refers more to an extension of summer into the fall. Dating back to its origins it was never meant as a slur against the native peoples of NA or at least it was never used as one in publications dating back to the time.

It's first origins most likely have more to do with the Indian peoples burning the grasslands in the fall after the harvest.

Indian summer is first recorded in Letters From an American Farmer, a 1778 work by the French-American soldier turned farmer Michel-Guillaume-Jean de Crèvecoeur:

"Then a severe frost succeeds which prepares it to receive the voluminous coat of snow which is soon to follow; though it is often preceded by a short interval of smoke and mildness, called the Indian Summer."

Haha, I've heard about that. It's like Dog PTSD. Maybe try running some Youtube videos of fireworks shows just so they get used to it.

Looks like I will probably be at a BBQ with friends smoking some delicious meats.

I'll be staring into a dark void, which is what I spend a lot of time doing. With my psych makeup it is a daily thing and quite frankly until someone told me this afternoon I would have completely forgot the 4th was next week.

That sucks Boomer. Hope you breeze through it, and have some fun on the 4th.

Well that sucks :confused_old: ... hope it's mild!

Thanks. It doesn't really seem to be much worse than a bad cold. I've been fighting it for about 10 days now. Took an "at home 10 minute" test over the weekend...showed positive, so on Monday I went to the local clinic for a "real" test. Results on Wednesday said, "Yes, dumbshit, you have the coof." I hope it goes away soon.

I'd rather have covid than the explosive diarrhea I am having. Haven't eaten in 30 hours. Just tried some soup and that was a mistake. Gonna stick to water and Gatorade.

Imodium might be your best friend...Take 2 for the first dose, then one every time you blow up. (pay attention to the dosage limits on the bottle) The stuff works pretty well.
