What are you doing to celebrate the fourth?

I'm driving up to my old home Boston to visit a friend. I'm looking forward to it since it'll be a big fam trip with their kids and another family friend from cali will be joining. We'll do all the touristy stuff in Boston, but with my kids this time.. wow unreal.

Light fireworks
Grill
Drink
Get hammered maybe after kids fall asleep

So get this A-tot. That friend's dad is Chinese. He wok-fried a sirloin steak whole which had formed a different sensation of a crust altogether compared to grilling or pan-frying. It came out beautifully medium rare while having an even 'crust' on the outside. This was 15 years ago and I had never had anything like that before and since.

What am I doing? ANC Headphones. :p

I thought about going down to Madison to watch Rhythm & Booms (fireworks show synced to music broadcast on local radio), but I've not been feeling crowds in recent years. Lately though, I've been getting headaches from loud stuff, even music. Why I say my ANC cans will be coming out.

No firm plans as of yet.

Would be nice to BBQ but our Indian summers will basically guarantee overcast weather for most of the day with the sun peaking out in the late afternoon if we're lucky.

Figure we have some friends over, eat and drink to the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I'd LOVE to do the Boston fireworks show with the concert by the Boston Pops. (they're still doing that...right?)

But, once again, it's not to be.

We'll PROBABLY go down to the local beach for the fireworks displays as thousands of tourists descend on our little town...I know of one local who always spends at least $10,000 on fireworks for the 4th. (I've heard this year it's MUCH more than in past years) Depending on the tides, it can be pretty crazy down there as there are often 10,000--15,000 cars on the beach and beach access roadways.

(sorry for the video quality, my Galaxy S9+ really didn't like the changing lights and darkness)

The same thing we have done every 4th for many years. We take our dogs and go to the middle of the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, and unplug.
No fireworks, no network, no power. This sound system is 25' away from the picnic table and plays round the clock. It is is a very patriotic American river.

We'll probably trip on down to Naches and get some cherries at Thompson's orchards.
Get a watermelon or two, and let them chill in a shallow spot in the river.
Cook and eat and nap, nap a whole lot.
Maybe drive up to Raven Roost, with the 360 view of the Cascades.

Some friends are coming up to tent camp for a couple of nights, but we are there from the 30th to the 5th.

Are you saying you live in India? Otherwise, I'm unfamiliar with "Indian summer" in this context.

-An Indian Summer, as @Dr. Detroit pointed out is a warm autumn/early winter (our best weather here is in the October/November timeframe).

To the locals, it's also come to characterize the gloomy, foggy summer and the two are kind of linked (Gloomy/Wet/Dark actual summer months, sunny/warm/relaxing fall/autumn).

If I'm not mistaken an "Indian" summer was a "false" summer. Gee I wonder how the white man came up with that little gem?

But it's PERFECTLY FINE to still say it now that you are aware and it doesn't make you racist. After all Columbus THOUGHT he was in India right?!? RIGHT?!? So that makes it A-okay! /s

I vote we start calling it a WHITE PEOPLE summer instead .... FAR more accurate!
