That is something to consider but for 2019, mine only made $2500 or so and paid $150 in fed. This years summer job, assuming we're not dead, is $15/hr so....How old is your kid?
Since they revamped the standard deduction and took away additional deductions for kids - it's now based on the Child Tax Credit anyhow.
My understanding based on some quick reads is that the child tax credit of $2000 is only applicable to kids 18 and younger. Thus when your kid turns 19+ then you will only be eligible for a $500 "standard dependent" credit.
Once down to $500 credit, I would almost think filing their own tax return at that point would lead to more substantial difference than that measly $500 credit.
