I swear, athiests use to be intelligent people with a sense of humor. Now they're getting as annoying as some of the religious nutjobs

Actually, the douchebaggery factor in your post is off the scale, given that the OP simply asked for input:

My input was simply:

I am not religious, and I have no intention of giving up anything for any religious reason, ever.

I am simply stating my position, as requested by the OP. I am clearly not putting down anyone else's point of view, whereas you apparently have something against both athiests and those whom you consider to be "religious nutjobs".

Grow the fuck up.

I will never understand how anyone could believe an all powerful being who exists in a realm unchained by physics, logic, and reason, created the entire universe from thought, breathed life into every human being and animal, intricately designed everything to work together in a self sustaining fashion, knows everything at all times even what someone is thinking, and stands ready to annihilate this universe he created and defeat a near endless legion of demons and the devil but, somehow, cares if you promise to only eat fish for 40 days.

I'm giving up energy drinks because it's one hell of an expensive habit and this is a good excuse to try and ween myself off them. Am I giving up caffeine in the form of free coffee at the office though? OH HELL TO THE NO.

What the hell's lent?

Lent, in some Christian denominations, is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter.

LOL, why would anybody do something like?!

I'm not sure whether to laugh or feel sorry for you.

Oh I'm not in any rush, and it'll definitely happen, but if hypothetically I had to give something up, why not?

Grow up and buy a clue. The OP did NOT phrase the question in a manner that would suggest random self-improvement, it mentions Lent right there in the title. Did you fail to notice that in your hurry to get your panties into a bunch? You are the king of the "doucheness" in this thread. Nobody follows Lent unless they're religious, therefore the thread is religious. People who want to make empty, fake promises without the fairy tales call them New Years resolutions.

Another one in for the energy drinks, and I'm dropping the junk food. I've used Lent as a time to unhook myself from the trappings of modern society.

Regardless of your spirituality or absence thereof it works pretty well as a way to dump expensive or unhealthy habits, or to just reinforce good ones.
Since Lent about four years ago, I drink soda pretty sparingly.

I decided to give up booze for a month, starting on Feb 14. That's close enough for lent, right? I'm not religious or anything, so it's just a happy or unhappy coincidence.
