I get sick of this shit from some of my kid's teachers too over the years.

One year we got a letter within the first day or two of school that demanded tissues, specifically Kleenex brand because they're better constructed for the kids' runny noses.

I think school supplies have been getting more and more infiltrated by 'sponsored' brands. When my son started kindergarten, it was simply 'pencils', and now starting middle school, a lot of items have a particular brand name attached to them. I get the 'Kleenex' crap this year as well, and also some other branded items.

I've had top of the line Rotrings, and bog standard Pentels, Sanford, and whatnot. They all fuck up on occasion, and the better ones for writing are delicate due to the exposed tip. That's not getting into refilling where you drop a tube of leads on the floor since either the pencil doesn't hold a whole tube, and/or you weren't giving it 100% of your attention.

If you're considering those shittastic Bics, or other (semi)disposable pencils, don't; just don't. They're worse than useless. It's just more junk plastic in the world. They don't write worth a shit, and you're lucky if lasts as long as the lead inside.

I used mech pencils (. 07) all through college. They last forever if you do it right. I loved them and still even have a few laying around that I used back in school.

A lot of people have problems getting the correct amount of lead sticking out for some reason. I always thought it was funny in school when people would constantly break their lead off.

IMO, the standard Bic mechanical pencil is much better than just about any regular pencil, primarily because it erases much better.

Yeah I never had good luck with them either in school, the leads were just too thin and broke easily. They wrote nicely and consistent though. I found any pencil made in Canada or USA worked fine for me. The china crap broke too easily as well.

All pencil erasers were garbage though, I'd always have a white eraser with me.
