Every school has a secret stash of pencils. You just have to know where to look...

I get sick of this shit from some of my kid's teachers too over the years.

One year we got a letter within the first day or two of school that demanded tissues, specifically Kleenex brand because they're better constructed for the kids' runny noses.

Yeah, we sent bulk Target brand because reasons.

I think school supplies have been getting more and more infiltrated by 'sponsored' brands. When my son started kindergarten, it was simply 'pencils', and now starting middle school, a lot of items have a particular brand name attached to them. I get the 'Kleenex' crap this year as well, and also some other branded items.

Part of the brand name requesting stems from parents sending in dollar store materials that aren't even worth the dollar they cost...

Yeah, but that's a whole other topic of how we are continuing to subsidize the actions of shitty parents as taxpayers and as private citizens.

I know, P&N is <= that way.... :D

I like Dixon Carpenter's pencils, great for marking where I need to cut so that I dont screw everything up.

They do, but they're also even more expensive.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids out there whose parents aren't making ATOT money. D:

Ya, I used to lose my mechanical pencils every few weeks. Let some asshole borrow it, never see it again. Leave it on a carpet or any desk but mine, never again.

Mechanical pencils aren't suitable for kids. They're either junk that has a 50% chance of working out of the pack, or quality with breakable parts, and not uncommon jams.

If there was actual sponsorship, they wouldn't need to beg parents for printer paper, pencils and snot-rags.

...Where do you buy your mechanical pencils? Rhetorical question.

I've had top of the line Rotrings, and bog standard Pentels, Sanford, and whatnot. They all fuck up on occasion, and the better ones for writing are delicate due to the exposed tip. That's not getting into refilling where you drop a tube of leads on the floor since either the pencil doesn't hold a whole tube, and/or you weren't giving it 100% of your attention.

If you're considering those shittastic Bics, or other (semi)disposable pencils, don't; just don't. They're worse than useless. It's just more junk plastic in the world. They don't write worth a shit, and you're lucky if lasts as long as the lead inside.

Skip the pencils, just use pens. It'll teach those kids to get it correct the first time.

And even then it still breaks
I used mech pencils (. 07) all through college. They last forever if you do it right. I loved them and still even have a few laying around that I used back in school.

I sense user error :D

A lot of people have problems getting the correct amount of lead sticking out for some reason. I always thought it was funny in school when people would constantly break their lead off.

IMO, the standard Bic mechanical pencil is much better than just about any regular pencil, primarily because it erases much better.

Here in California, everything has a cancer warning. There are even cancer warnings in parking garages because of vehicle exhaust fumes.

contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer. :colbert:

Kelvrick beat me to it but I was gonna say that literally EVERYTHING in California has a warning that it contains chemicals known to California to cause cancer. Even the air.

Mechanical pencils are pure shit. The "lead" breaks so fucking easily

Yeah I never had good luck with them either in school, the leads were just too thin and broke easily. They wrote nicely and consistent though. I found any pencil made in Canada or USA worked fine for me. The china crap broke too easily as well.

All pencil erasers were garbage though, I'd always have a white eraser with me.
