Srsly though - isn't the reason for Ticonderoga #2 due to the old school belief that they're more accurate on scantrons?

are teachers in the US this fucked up?

Apparently these pencils were once made in the US and high quality, but I just went on amazon and it's clear the quality has fallen since they're being made in Mexico.

That teacher is a traitor and a financial terrorist, also 60 pencils is an absurd amount. It's probably because it (must be a soviet robot, so it's a it) knows that certain kids with drugged-up or poor parents or whatever won't bring any while the rich kids won't have an issue. So it probably has no consequences for the kid: buy the pencils you want.

Also your kid can use one of these

they're cheap, and no need to use the teacher's.
That way it can get stuffed if it complains about the cheap pencils breaking in his sharpener.

Besides, I'd get a small pack of decent pencils to not be shared, and a bunch of cheap ass pencils to give to the red agent.

Get The Write Dudes pencils. Good pencils, actual wood, good price, made in Tennessee.

I get a box of 48 of their USA Silver pencils at Wally World for ~$6.

Good pencils are a good thing.

Suggesting good pencils means fewer lead breaks, sharper points, slower wear, and less trips to the pencil sharpener, which means fewer classroom disruptions.

I am guessing they want that specific pencil as its pre sharpened.

My sons school just ask for #2 pencil but for them to be sharpened. So buy the cheap ones, sharpen them, put back in box, and then send to school.

Most kids these days don't have to deal with scantrons anymore, as more and more tests are done on the computer.

I'm guessing the OP's pencils are expensive because it's pre-sharpened.

mechanical pencils solve all that. Keep two or three in the desk, refill them at the beginning of the day.

Cheap pencils are made with gluten and peanuts. They are made by children in sweatshops, cause global warming and contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer. :colbert:

OMG that made my laugh. Parents being psycho about peanuts is one of the largest reasons I don't have kids yet. I love PB&Js and I don't want to turn into a social pariah.

I have purchased those cheap pencils from the dollar store. You try and sharpen them, and the lead breaks, sharpen a bit more, and again the lead breaks, before you know it your 8" pencil is 4". Screw that, I would rather spend the extra money on a quality pencil. I do use a mechanical for drafting, but they are too fine a point for everyday, but that's just me. I also don't care for fine point ink pens, just a personal thing. Would also love to have one of those old school grinding sharpeners like we had on the wall in the sixties. Found some quality pencils at Lowes, that came with a nice sharpener, that is designed to fit a drill, though I just turn it by hand. These were NOT carpentry pencils, that's a horse of a different color. I use those as well, lays down a heavy line for my saws to follow.

They do, but they're also even more expensive.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids out there whose parents aren't making ATOT money. D:
